  • Cheapest place to fly

I live on the East Coast..

I'm trying to find somewhere to go in July or August .. I know it may be tricky and I have to be patient (which I'm NOT!!) but I'm getting overwhelmed by all the options and you guys really really seem to have so much experience.

So.... Do you have any tips on where it may be reasonablet to fly? At this point I'm open to go ANYWHERE! I just have to be able to afford it!

There are 3 of us flying so I'm really trying for something closer to 200-250.

Do you have any search engines that you always have the best luck with?
There are so many out there that just trying to do that is overwhelming..

Some of my other dilemas that maybe you can provide some tips on how you do your research!

I find something available and I like in RCI.. Now How do I get there? How do I figure out what airport? I see the transportation tab but sometimes that's limited. I thought there use to be a way to put in a city and a list of airports surrounding it would show up but can't find where I use to do that.

Ok.. so now I know which airport.. I've checked some reviews on TUG and here and the resort seems nice.... How the heck do I find a reasonable airfare?

I love love doing research.. but this is consuming sooooo much time. I guess if I didn't keep hitting a road block at some point in the process I wouldn't be getting discouraged..

Please does anyone have any tips to help me or do I give up a summer vacation!!

Is there really no hope of getting something this late in the game?

I really like Kayak. They seem to find the best deals and when you click to buy it sends you to the airline's website to do that.

A lot of us get fare alerts and post in the forum here when we see great deals.

eta: You may have to fly out of the NYC airports for the best prices.

I am a Southwest Fan. Not sure where you are on the East Coast - but if New England then you can find them out of Manchester or Providence. (possibly even Boston - not sure if they have started out of there).

In the last week I have seen from Providence to:
Pittsburg, Baltimore and Phili all for under $50 one way.

Sign up for their Ding fares - they are great.

You might just make the rounds of the different consolidators - there are always Specials listed so that might be easier in deciding which airport to depart from.

I would watch the Milage Run board at FlyerTalk - The world's most popular frequent flyer community

Try http://www.airfarewatchdog.com. You can enter your city name and find the lowest published fare from your city to just about anywhere. You might not get that fare on any date you want, but they will show you how low it can be if you are flexible enough in your search. They alerted me to a $290 r/t fare from Philly to Munich last year.

I also use the travelzoo. Their email alerts are getting me from Philly-Madrid this October for $211 r/t.

Maybe too late for me from Minneapolis. I got this when I check on the Travelzoo site:
$276, Hawaii from Minneapolis Roundtrip (incl. Taxes)
We're sorry, this special has either sold out due to huge demand or may no longer be available at the originally advertised price, terms and conditions.

I live near Newark Airport, so I usually just keep an eye on Continental's prices. I signed up for their e-mail newsletter and they send info on specials and sales.
