  • UK raising air ticket tax yet again

The UK already imposes by far the largest air ticket tax in Europe, and probably the world, for the purpose of discouraging air travel in order to ''save the planet''. It has just gotten worse, as they are increasing the tax and will increase it yet again.

The Netherlands tried this same gambit, and found that passengers were riding the train or driving to fly out of nearby countries to avoid the tax. They ended up repealing it.

What are they thinking? More taxes? Like they don't tax their people enough with the value added tax.

Is this tax only on out-bound flights?

Yes, that is where it is collected. If you are travelling to the UK, you can avoid the worst part of this tax by flying into the UK, then out of somewhere like Ireland, Germany, or France, using an LCC to bridge the jaws. If you put it all on one ticket, they will still collect the stiff long haul tax.
