  • AA changed my flight schedule and I am delighted

American changed our flights to PV and we were getting in 3 hours later. I was annoyed and called to see if we could get on an earlier flight that same day. I was told I could but the connection would be through Chicago - not a good option in January. So I asked if we could go the day before - surprisingly they said yes.

We had originally booked a Monday departure because the fare was so much cheaper than Sunday - the day when our condo actually started. We decided it was better to burn a day rather than pay the higher fare (we are going for a month). But AA changed the dates with no additional charge because they had changed our flights and we would be getting in later than originally scheduled. I knew I could probably get an earlier flight on the same day but I did not know I could change the day. Maybe the more seasoned travelers know this but I am sure there are others who do not. So I am passing along this tip. Also, I am curious if this is the policy on all airlines.

Congrats on getting what u really wanted!

I think the key is 3 hours - once the change is 3 hours or more, you have the option to a refund or a change without penalty...good for you!

      What a nice surprise!

Another example of one of the things I always tell people - if you don't ask, you don't get. The worst thing that could have happened is that they could have told you no, you can't go a day earlier.

It seems AA is changing alot of flights lately. They also changed my flight out of Malaga next month. I had a 9am flight and I guess they cancelled it because now I´ve got to leave at 6am. That means I´ve got to get up at 3am to catch this flight. Not a happy camper.

See if there is a later flight. I think the computer just matches you up with the closest option. Sometimes it does not even make sense. Once AA rescheduled my son to a 30 minute winter connection in Chicago on the last flight that day to PV. A sure formula for disaster. He called and was rebooked through Dallas instead. Someone told me, if need be, they will put you on another airline if they cannot accomodate you. It would be interesting to know if that is true.

Unfortunately there is only one flight direct to Miami from Madrid which is our connecting city. If I go later than I have to fly to Boston or Chicago. That´s even worse than getting up at 3am. Oh well, now I´m stuck. Should have flown Iberia.
