More Bad Mojo
After reading some of the posts on this thread, I simply had to register as a new user and make a posting of my own. I hope that my first posting will not be as disagreeable as some have been.
First of all, I must correct the previous posts: the shill posting above referenced an online business trust site called the "Online Business Bureau" and not the internationally recognizable "Better Business Bureau" that three generations of American consumers are familiar with. Having worked with a number of business start-ups, most ending in spectacular failure, I have some experience with registering a new company with the very legitimate and dependable Better Business Bureau. It is not an easy thing to do, and requires a great deal of time and expertise to navigate. While any company can register with the Better Business Bureau, only those companies who have been in business for longer than a calendar year, and also agree to the BBB's terms of arbitration and resolution can be "accredited" with the BBB.
Century Timeshares Group is not accredited the BBB. As of the date of this posting the BBB's website lists Century Timeshares Group as being in business since January of 2010, gives them a D+ rating, and three complaints; two of which were resolved, and one which was closed administratively by the BBB.
In stark contrast to the Better Business Bureau's assessment, the Online Business Bureau gives Century Timeshares Group an ambiguous "green" rating. Five minutes worth of legwork revealed precisely what a company must do in order to receive this coveted rating: pay a $49.99 initial registration fee, and subscribe to a $14.99 monthly maintenance fee.
To any reasonable person, this kind of deceptive "trust verification" practice is synonymous with fraud. It represents a material and intentional misrepresentation of fact. The very presence of the Online Business Bureau's logo on a website should be a flashing red warning sign with the words "buyer beware" inscribed on it.
In addition to this, the Century Timeshares Group homepage uses two logos (Exit Realty Corp., and Wachovia Bank N.A.) with no reference to either entity's homepage or a certificate of permission for trademark reproduction. The webmaster of this site has simply copied the logo of a trademarked entity and pasted it arbitrarily on their website. This represents trademark infringement.
I defy any person posting to this thread to produce material documentation to this entity's legitimacy. I have produced 4 material examples of their illegitimacy, intentional deceptive practices, and outright fraud. I've shown you mine, now show me yours.
Sincerely,
- Foomanshoe

Interesting. . . . .
Interesting that the Online BBB says Century has been in business since January since Kevin called me in December, early December, to be exact, and called back on the evening of January 5th to say a buyer was ready to purchase my timeshare blah, blah, blah. . . . Gosh, that means I was one of the first to be . . . the word escapes me.

If you look for a licensed timeshare resale broker and get scamed you have recourse by going to the Board of Realtors or the agency that can take their license from them. So type in licensed timeshare resale broker and see how many are out there to help. Once you find them then investigate them and make sure they are not a sister company to the scam.

Century Timeshare Group
I have just concluded my dealings with this company and while it took a lot of work and calling and complaining I have to honestly give them credit for actually doing what they said. No I am not a shill I am someone just like the rest of you but I have to be honest so that when someone has done something I believe wrong and I call them on it, then I also have to say something when they make it right.
I had been told that they had a buyer and the cost I was going to pay was for closing and that it would come back to me a closing from the buyer. I paid and them went six months without closing and the buyer was no longer qualified. I pushed real hard and thanks to Seniors vs. Crime in St. Augustine Beach Police Dept. I was credited yesterday on my credit card for the money that I had paid. I am posting this with no names since I am not to tell but must give credit where it is due.
I would not have them sell for me since I will not pay up front ever again but they finally did what they said so now I am done and in this case they did what they said they would do.
Be careful whenever you deal with any company like these who want to sell for you. Keep exact records of all conversations (record if you can) and keep track of all writen materials. Ask that all be put in writing and if it does not say what it is supposed to do not sign it but simply tell them it has to be in writing. Never send anything unless you keep a copy of it for yourself. Do not wait for them to contact you (they will not in most cases) you need to keep contact with them on a regular basis. Always repeat the basic agreement you have with them in all conversations. I am now done with this type of business. We have two annual weeks and one byannual so I do know what it is to own and use timeshares. Owner since 2000.

Century Timeshare Group finally came through and yes believe it or not I got my money back. I am posting this since I complained about them. No it was not easy to get and it took about three months but I got notice yesterday that the money was back on my card. So if you complain about a company make sure that if they make it right you also let people know that as well. Would I ask them to sell for me? (You must not know what it means to have to fight to get anything refunded.) the answer is no and I should not have done it in the first place. If you don't want your timeshare any longer sell it to someone you know for what ever you can get and let them take it over. It is most likely the only way it will ever stop you from having to pay yearly maintenance fees.

Chap7 I hear you but Century had already started the refund before the call came from Sr vs. Crime. I talked to them and we agreed that a call would be the icing on the cake which it was. I guess I still want to blieve that there is some good even if it is just a little in most folks so that is why I said they did what they had said. This was a long and drawn out process and it took them two weeks after I signed the nondisclosure thing to get the $ back on the card but they did it.
Anyone our there in this trap, 1. keep good records of what you said and did and make sure you have hard copies of everything you can and recording of all you can. 2. Do not be afraid to use the BBB or the Online BB. While neither were much help it is still something the company has to answer to. 3. Don't give up and if necessary contact your local TV Station they may have a investigative team that like this kind of thing since it is news when someone tries to scam people in their viewing area. The last thing these companies want is bad publicity or an A.G. from some state checking on them.
This type of postin also helps since it is how I found the Sr. vs. Crime folks.
Gook luck to all but I am now done with this kind of thing.

This whole dialogue caused the BS meter to blare out an alarm... The stench is almost overwhelming!
Even if scammers are nice to you after they've taken your money, the bottom line is they still scammed you to begin with.. Anyone who sounds grateful to have been refunded after being ripped off just sounds disingenuous to me.. Either that, or they need a firm slap to bring them back to their senses....
