  • WESTGATE/PLANET HOLLYWOOD Las Vegas, NV

    Hi Everyone,
My boyfriend and I went to Las Vegas at the end of Sept. We were offered free buffet tickets and free tickets to a show to take the 90minute tour of the hotel. (we weren't told it was a timeshare) We were told they wanted us to stay with Planet Hollywood on our next visit and we would get a free weekend by doing this.
AFTER we were upstairs and I asked we were told it was a timeshare and since we were already there, we went on the tour.
It was beautiful and my boyfriend and I have been wanting to travel so it sounded like a great idea. Little did we know we would be fed a bunch of lies to get us into this contract and cost us 4000.00.
I told them I was trying to rebuild my credit and didn't want to have a credit check run and they told me NO PROBLEM, we can do this without a credit check because WE are the bank and it would help with rebuilding my credit in the future.
They then wanted our social security numbers and we said we didn't want to do this if we had to use our social security numbers cause we have issues with the IRS. As we were about to walk out they said that it would be NO PROBLEM to not use our social security numbers because a lot of clients were from out of the country and didn't have social security numbers. And we made this VERY CLEAR and we NEVER put our social security numbers on any of our paperwork. When we went through the notary process and got to the W9 form, we also explained to him we did NOT want to use our social security numbers which we were told THAT IS NOT A PROBLEM!
We were also lied to about this as well:
    1. We could use our condo without restrictions anytime as long as it was available. (not true...if you use it on thurs, fri and sat you can't book again on those days for your other 4 nights)
    2. We could go to many locations on our list and stay in a condo (studio) for 199.00 for 7 nights/8 days. (not true....can't find this rate anywhere and Hawaii is 799.00)
    3. The condo's were 60k and we were getting a deal at 30k because a doctor from Redondo Beach, Ca upgraded to a 4 bedroom so we would have 30k equity and the prices were going up so it was a great investment! (not true...found out they start pitching at 30k and go down in price and I read someone even got theres for 800.00 after they said no at 30k)
    4. We were told this is EXCLUSIVE to MEMBERS ONLY! (You can book the same thing online for 599.00 a night)
    5. We were never told about exchange fees or rebooking fees. (yes if you have to rebook or cancel they charge you 130.00)
So after being home for a week, I start getting calls from Westgate telling me they need our social security numbers, which I explain we do not care to use them that we don't want to use the interest as a tax write off. (mind you they haven't cashed our check for the down payment yet) They say..."Oh no problem, we just wanted you to be able to use it on your taxes". The day after they cash our check for almost 4k, I get a call from Westgate telling me they need our social security numbers and I explain to them again we don't wish to use this for tax purposes and was THEN told I have to give them my social because they HAVE to report it to the IRS! I then get a letter stating I will be fined if I don't return the W9 with our social security numbers. I call the notary and he says this is wrong information and he has never heard of this before and will get back to me on Monday. Needless to say, he isn't calling me back or answering my phone calls. I tried to get ahold of the sales lady who sold me this bunch of lies and was told she has been let go. I can't reach the sales department in Planet Hollywood. As of yesterday, I received another call from Westgate about my social security number and was given a "number" to corp office to a department called "owners relations department". This number turned out to be the same customer service number as I always call. This company is a scam and gives you the run around. If anyone else has information on law suits or attorneys I would appreciate the info. I just don't see how they can lie to you to get you to sign a contract and get away with this kind of sales tactics.

The standard operating procedure for Wastgate. Hopefully you can still rescind OR by refusing to give your SS number you can prevent the "sale" from ever happening.

Your $30K ownership sells for under $2K on eBay - WAY under (as there are people giving them away already). Hope you can get out. It is a total rip off.

My guess would be what normally happens when you default on a loan. It goes to collections and eventually appears on your credit report as a bad debt write off.

Westgate will hound and lie to people to get them to go to a presentation, I can only imagine what they would do to get a payment. But then, they may sell the loans or finance through another party. Check your paperwork to see who you actually owe money to.

That's an assumption I'd never want to make.

Several years ago, I had a CC taken out in my name with the wrong address, wrong employment information, wrong mothers maiden name and the wrong SS#. It still ended up on my credit report and I had a difficult time getting it removed, even though I could easily prove the information wrong and that I had never taken out that CC. If it was easy enough for all of that wrong information, along with the bad debt write off for that CC, then my bet is Westgate won't have that much trouble putting the information on your credit report.
