If that works for you, that is great. I am not sure about the quality of the resorts you own. Have you been to DRI's Hawaii resorts, The Point at Poipu or Kaanapali Beach Club? What about Grande Beach in Orlando? Does Holiday Inn have that kind of quality? Usually they don't. We could be comparing apples and oranges.
We have to keep in mind that every individual is going to have different needs and preferences when it comes to timeshares. If all we ever wanted to do was go to one (or a few) locations, there are timeshares out there that would fit that bill for much less than what DRI charges. For instance, if all we ever wanted to do was vacation in Branson, MO, DRI wouldn't be my first choice for ownership. Sure the resort is great but, the MF's on the points required to reserve a unit there would be to high. There's good choices that are considerably less expensive.

ILX owners where accustomed to a certain quality at a particular price point. Apparently, most were happy with the quality/cost ratio. It's unfortunate the HOA/BOD and/or developer found themselves in the situation where a change was made that has upset ILX owners.

DRI has very good quality and great locations but, they have high MF's. While I'm enjoying the quality and variety DRI has to offer, I also fear that they could aquire a lessor resort group that I own and force MF's to a point that I'd seriously consider getting rid of those two resorts managed by that company. I like Marriott and DRI quality but, I can only afford so much and, the other two resorts we bought to use, not exchange. We're happy with the quality of those resorts and the price point.

So I can see why there will always be owners at any resort or resort group that will not be happy. On the other hand, there's likely to be owners that are very happy someone came in and made what they owned into something better than what they currently have. I've found the when I'm happy, I'm less likely to post positive thoughts. However, when I'm not happy, I post at will.

I know that the quality of Diamonds resorts has improved. I would have increased my points with them if not for the outrageous fees. For me Holiday Inn works great because once or twice a year my wife and I leave the cold weather of Niagara Falls for Florida or Myrtle Beach. As for Holiday Inn resorts they are of comparable or better quality to the Point at Poipu and Kaanapali Beach Club at more reasonable fees. Ocean Beach Club is a top rated II resort.

I bet you wouldn't mind paying DRI rates to get out of Niagara Falls right now, wouldn't you?

If Holiday Inn is a good deal with good quality, then you won't have an argument with me.

            Got out-but it cost us.

We also have a TS at Los Abrigado's, owned since 2002, never got to stay at the home resort, availability never seemed to match our plans? We did venture down to Tucson to stay at the Varsity Club a few time's, which is no better than a mid range chain hotel, and Kohl's Ranch in Payson, Az. which was nice, but still lacked a lot of resort ammenities. Carriage House in Vegas was good when it first opened up, it too went down hill in a hurry. To say the least we got a bad feeling about the new's on the ILX restructuring proceedings. Really tick's a person off to know you've bought in to an organization that evidentally is clueless about resort management.
Opted to use "Time Share Out" to get rid of this 800lb gorilla. Cost us a bunch of money to unload, but now seeing what we would have been paying for maintenance fee's to DRI all I can say is-ADIOS!

Wow does this smack of first post advertising SPAM for one of those postcard companies. You know the ones, they promise the moon, take you money, then leave you at the alter.

NEVER give anyone cash upfront to unload your timeshare.

Their maintenance fee went up because 1) the resort was being underfunded all along 2) prior poor management results in delinquencies which costs other owners more 3) DRI management is not cheap, only you can determine if it is too expensive for you
Good point, though it does make me curious, have you asked DRI what your MF would be under their point system? Kinda curious to see how much of a change if any there is.
