We stayed at a Wyndham property in the Poconos through an II exchange. We took the sales presentation for the $75.00 gift card. It was the easiest presentation we ever went to. I don't think the sales guy was prepared to deal with someone who was so knowlegeable about TSing. He tried to put down DRI and play up Wyndham. I was able to effectively counter every point he made. When I told him we clearly had no interest in Wyndham, he walked away for a good ten minutes. (I hate this ploy - it's designed to make you uncomfortable and give in to the sales pitch!) Knowing this, my husband and I simply talked about what we had planned for the day and used the time to discuss future vacation plans. By the time the sales guy came back, he asked one more time if we were interested. We said no and were quickly ushered to the sales desk for our "gift." All for only 15 minutes of our time. Wish all presentations could be this easy. BTW - on the phone we were promised $100, but got only $75.

I'm glad your presentation went well. However, we must never forget that this is how these agents put food on their tables. They are mostly 100% commission, and I strongly advise folks to only do presentations if they have an interest in timeshare. You are spending quite a few hours with someone you don't particularly like, and would never want to see again, when you could be out on vacation, enjoying time with your family and loved ones. Just for $75? How much is your time worth? It's priceless, you're not getting one second of it back for a redo.

Jya Ning, that's not correct. As a Wyndham owner you can use a percentage of RCI's points resorts. You can't go online and book them yourself, but Wyndham owners have a list of RCI's points resorts in their Wyndham catalogue. I'm a Wyndham owner as well as having worked there. There are a limited number of them, but they are there. You don't have to spend extra money on this if you are a Wyndham owner.
I can't talk for the resale market, as I know nothing of it. But if you purchase your points with a Wyndham resort you get to use a certain amount of RCI points resorts.
Hope this clarifys.

She was actually more pushy than the sales guy. I also made it clear at the start of the sales presentation that I wasn't interested. I know these people work off commission and I would be more than happy to never attend another meeting again. However, if they are the ones begging for me to come, knowing all the while I am most likely not going to buy, I have nothing to lose. In this case, we really had no set plans for the day. Given the few people at the resort when I was there, I don't think the sales person had any other meetings with prospective buyers that day.
I work on commisson too, but if they lie and pester and beg and plead for me to come to one of their "updates" and promise me an incentive to do it, then do not be surprised if I am going to sit there and wait to get my prize.
When I say no I am not interested, please believe me, I am not lying about this.
If I go to a sales presentation solely to waste their time, knowing full well I am just there for the $50 gift card, then that is one thing. Refer back to post 1 - lying to come into my room at 8:00 am bearing a box of fudge is something else.No matter where you go.....there you are...
