    It depends on where you own. All three of the resorts I own at are member-controlled, and each with take a deed. Those resorts are on three different continents but all take deedbacks. The problem is that most developer controlled resorts do not. That is just one of the many reasons I only buy at member-controlled resorts.

                A few weeks ago I nuked someone who apparently used the search feature to find a post from several years earlier, which they then copied and pasted into a thread, after inserting their spam link. That may be a new MO, with them hoping that if the content seems relevant the spam might survive.

                    You obviously don't know very much about timesharing. The majority of US timeshares are deeded where the owner owns a fraction of the physical buildings and amenities. By debt, I assume that you are referring to the maintenance fees that you are obligated to pay.

                    Having said that, I would never buy a timeshare today. There are so many alternatives today that are more attractive at a lower cost. In most cases you can rent a timeshare for less than the M/F.

                    My wife and daughter went to Tucson AZ this weekend to visit family. They are staying in the Residence Inn. They have a full 1BR Suite with kitchen, 2 TV's, etc. plus they get a free hot buffet breakfast every morning. The cost is $93.00 /nt. For those that don't know, The Residence Inn is a Marriott property located all across the country.

                      I agree, great deal. We'll be staying at the SpringHill Suites in Old Montreal this summer. Also have a 1 bdrm suite with mini kitchen and a free buffet breakfast. It's a great option.

                        We have stayed at the Springhill Suites before and they are quite nice though not at the same level as the Residence Inn. The Residence Inn has been around for years but the Springhill Suites are relatively pretty new. I lived for 4 months in a Residence Inn.

                        I hope you enjoy Montreal. I spent a month there in the summer a few years ago and loved it.

                        It is ridiculous when people compare a timeshare to hotels using Motel 6 as their comparison. There are many hotel options that offer what a timeshare does and often more. The Residence Inn, Homewood Suites ( Hilton property ), etc do this and include a free breakfast and even dinner sometimes ( Homewood Suites ). The biggest 2BR unit I have ever seen, and I have stayed in many, was at the Homewood Suites in Phoenix. The MBR was huge as were the other rooms. It cost us just $129 /nt during prime season.

                          Everyone did not buy or could purchase a timeshare on the resale market; someone had to purchase a week (a fixed week or points from a developer), so it could be purchase on the resale market.

                          Also, when puchasing a timeshare you own some outstanding vacation family times, especially with the grandkids.

                            Funny, before timesharing, and in the early years of our timesharing, we stayed in Residence Inns, Spring Hill Suites, Homewood Suites, Candlewood Suites, Baymont Inn and Suites, and other suites hotels, primarily using the Entertainment book discounts, very often, dozens of times a year.

                            Funny that it has come back to that, timesharing having not lived up to promises made.

                            Funny that now the exchange companies include traditional hotels and motels in their mix that you can trade into.

                              My DH just recently stayed at the Residence Inn in Chicago. He also thought it was quite nice, well worth the price, and perhaps a little nicer than the SpringHill Suites will be.

                              We could have chosen the Residence Inn in Montreal (booked with the same number of points) but preferred the other location. I've never been to Montreal, so I'm looking forward to our trip. We will be in Montreal for 5 nights, and then a week at the Condorama Int'l At Mont Ste. Anne, outside of Quebec City.

                                I stayed in downtown Montreal. I was working as a computer consultant at a steel plant about 30 miles down the river from Montreal so I got to see a lot of the countryside outside of the city. It was very interesting as very few people speak English when you get out of the city. Try riding on the Metro ( subway ) as there is a whole underground city of shopping centers, etc all connected by the Metro. In any event I had a great time and I hope you do to.
