  • HGVC is going to drop Bay Club?

I attended a timeshare preview at HGVC on the big island. The sales person told me that Hilton most likely is going to drop BayClub in near future, since they are selling their own vacation club, which is a much higher end product, and truly Hilton product. Bay Club is just affiliate.

Thank god I don't own Bay Club. But is it really true? I know many HGVC members actually have points, but home unit is Bay club. If HGVC does drop Bay Club, what happens to all the points they own?

    Salesperson double speak

This seems like a very remote possibility. Both Clubs share a lot of amenities. It took HGVC a while but they have approx. 75 percent of the owners in HGVC now.

The sales person was probobly trying to keep you from running back to your room and finding a Bay Club resale for $11,000-12,000, while they are trying to sell you a club membership for $??,???

I was told the something similar 2 weeks ago. That after HGVC builds at the new location (on the far side of the golf course) that HGVC may not wish to continue their affiliation with the Bay Club. I too don't believe that this is something which will happen anytime soon. (They haven't started any building at the new location yet just pushed around a little dirt and rock.)

Has there been any update on this?

The key words here are may not. If it were true, the words would be will not. I'm with the other poster who said this is saleman double speak. If 75% of the owners have been converted to HGVC members it would be tough to go back and tell them, "Sorry, we don't want you anymore." Not only would it look bad for Hilton as a corporation and jepordize any other affiliate resorts they now have or may want to have in the future (shooting themselves in the foot) but it could lead to legal issues as well.

            It's been done before

But it is always a possibility when a resort is affiliated with a name brand. There is no requirement that they continue the affiliation if the "standards" set aren't met. Ask the number of former Marriott owners that were abandoned when Marriott walked away as they are prone to do as resorts age. FF has affiliated and then dropped resorts in the past as well. If the idea is being thrown around - even by the lowly sales weasels - make plans to be where you want to be if it happens as there very well could be some truth in those weasel lies. If they are building a fancy new branded resort you will most likely be facing a hefty special assessment to meet the new expectations OR a loss of the Hilton link.

It seems to me that for those who have converted to HGVC, the first item those owners should check is their conversion agreement - see what that says about the circumstances under which Hilton may terminate the agreement.
“Maybe you shouldn't dress like that.”

“This is a blouse and skirt. I don't know what you're talking about.”

              “You shouldn't wear that body.”

But with Marriott, the owners did not pay a conversion fee to become affiliated. Marriott was the management company and had branded the resort as a Marriott resort. I don't believe the HGVC affiliates are managed by Hilton and they are not branded as Hilton resorts.

I can't speak to what Fairfields situation was concerning affiliated resorts.

My sister purchased Bay Club through the developer during their vacation 4 years ago. Didn't they buy through HGVC? If so, then how could HGVC drop them, it doesn't make sense to me.

No plans to drop Bay Club

I called Hilton and was advised by a supervisor that Hilton has no plans of dropping Bay Club. The property is in high demand and Hilton has no desire to anger current club members who own points at Bay Club.

I gather most likely that was a customer service suppervisor????....and that is the distinction between sales double talk and service.
