I FOLLOW THE RULE THAT NEVER PAY ANYTHING UPFRONT WHEN TRYING TO SELL A TIMESHARE.
I should have known better - I thought maybe that Century 21/Coldwell just might have turned over a new leaf since Cendant's stock crashed last year and there is so much negative information about RCI at this time.
I have a timeshare in Florida that I want to turn over - and since the resort in question is only 10 miles from Century 21 Flamingo - I called them.
I called Florida but received a call from at 212-288-9474 - New York City. My question was simple - are you still charging the advance fee?
He answered "Of course, we are the only company in the timeshare RESALE MARKET that is successful. What we do is one of the advantages of being with Cendant (He didn't seem to be aware of the corporate restructuring.) When we list a property (for a fee) we have RCI send us the records of the exchanges going into these resorts and contact the people advising them that we have some resales on the property. We then allow the sales staff at the resort to make their presentation and see the developers prices and the people then contact us. Our upfront fee is the closing costs as we want our sales immediately and don't have to wait 48 hours before we can exchange signatures. This way we get an immediate committment."
That's one of the huge problems with the world today - too many thinktheyare's and wannabe's with little or no ethics.
The good news is that these disgusting losers will be eventually trapped by the old true saying - what does around comes around.
