They always try to talk up VIP but its easy to say no VIP is worth $10,000 or more and we're not going to buy based on that. If need be we start talking between us saying things like "Wasn't this resort the one we saw on Redweek for $1000 last month? Why wold anyone pay $15,000?". Strangely enough the pitch usually ends soon after and we are gifted and sent out. I'm not going to feel guilty if they ask us to attend. Maybe our account has been flagged as the last two Wyndham stays for the first time ever we had no invitation - that has never happened before and I can't say I missed the "presentation". And they probably didn't miss me either.

As you know, I worked for Worldmark. And you were most likely put on a "do not invite" list. Oh well. Once your logic is presented at the table and it's clear you're not in the ether, you're gifted and spirited away so the sales floor can go on to the next prospect.

For the benefit of the folks on this BB, just don't announce your intentions at the onset. You may end up with a vindictive creature (like I was) and the next 90 minutes could be not a lot of fun. On the other hand remember that salespeople are paid on commission only and some of them are actually decent humans. Nobody likes to be jerked around....

My wife and I love to go to presentations for the gifts (she normally gets a massage or something out of it ) and information. Yes, some of the info is old new, but hey it doesn't hurt trying to learn something or get a 'refresher' on old news. But one thing my DW and I are adament about is that we are respectful to the presenter (unless they are rude or do something disrepectful to us like outright lie on everything) as they are there to make a living, just like most of us. We give them their time to present and try to sell us if they like. When the 90 mins end, we leave the table as friends - that is the hope, at least.

          Stayed at Worlmark and Fairfield

We have stayed at the Worldmark in Steamboat Springs and at the Fairfield Longwarf Resort in Newport, Rhode Island. We stayed at both places via an RCI exchange. No attempts were made at that time to have us attend any kind of TS sales presentation. I guess we were lucky.

We have had a very positive experience timesharing overall. We did not purchase our TSs as an investment, but to have a good time.

As a former ts salesman I'd be pissed off that someone would blantantly waste my time, but I understand that it takes two to tango. There is such sleeze in the industry (ts lizards that truly have no professionalism and would say anything to close the deal) that most of the slugs get what they deserve. Especially the TOs, who resort to insults and the like to get their point across.

You're attitude towards the salesman is both admirable and respectful and I would hope you never are treated otherwise.

I have and continue to attend timeshare sales presentations....why? I travel frequently to same areas and thus may just want to check out a resort, and in doing so I get the free gifts of course. I also find I gain more knowledge about how and what is being offered at resorts. I may like the resort or I may not, I may in future want to trade into it and then I have at least seen the place...

I have bought developer and resale. Why developer? Before I knew what I have learned on TUG...or it is a resort of which I never see resales or a new resort..I just have to have. For example, I own at Aqua Pacifica Resort in Ixtapa ( A penthouse). Was developer price and not cheap. I was already into the system with a Senior Sands Penthouse so upgraded but with developer.....I do not regret, though expensive, my purchase one bit, the unit is extremely unique, the resort great and the staff and management and Mexico City office treat me wonderful...This is without a doubt my favorite timeshare. Now Ixtapa does not have the amount of resorts PV does, so this is a yearly trip for me and well worth it.

I also own via resale many units in other parts of Mexico, and one thru developer that was an offer we could not refuse, yes probably could have gotten a bit cheaper resale, but we got so many perks and again it is a favorite of ours.

Though I doubt I would buy developer anymore, resale much cheaper, one never knows, but I am more informed via TUg and other timeshare sites as well as via attending many timeshare presentations so thus I am in tune with the current timeshare tactics and trends....

I am able to drive to all except one of my timeshares, which is in New England, I usually trade that for my son or a friend.....we use each week we own and we own many, my next move is to try renting instead of trading when I do decide I am bored somewhere......

Either way I have learned enough on TUG that I am now happy with all my purchases, am not beating myself up for my mistakes and yes buying resale is the way to go unless what you want or must have is not a resale resort as yet and you are impatient etc....

I am open to listening to the timeshare presenter within reason, and yes I have even learned things at presentations...now mind you would I do this ie: attend a time share presentaion if I were in a new destination of which I had lots of sightseeing to do etc...no! My vacation time then is too valuable, for example when we went to Playa Del Carmen, we spent every minute going on tours, sightseeing etc, with only 3 days of relax down time in two weeks.....did we go to a time share presentation, actually yes but it was due to an issue with free tours that were offered but they pulled a fast one on us and would only honor if we attended a presentation, but that was it, in and out...

Do we feel pressure at the presentations of course, but essentially we have gotten over that and learned to say no. Do we feel guilt, no we went in with open mind and if they had an offer we just loved we might buy, but probably not on the spot...so then the pressure but we are keen to that too...if we are insulted the time is up and guess what we expect our free gifts. We actually get quite a kick and lots of great conversations later on all the lies we have been told...LOL..

I could never have bought resale without the help f the Tuggers here, so once again thanks.....only problem is now I am addicted to timeshares & vacations and TUG!!!

I haven't checked all the posts, but is this discussion pertaining to Fairfield or Worldmark? Fairfield seems to have the "nicer" facilities but having been a former timeshare sales slug at Worldmark I can vouch for their sleezy tactics. Decent product, good selection of locations in the Western US and Canada. They trade fairly well but the bargains are in the resale world, or the final drop at the table if busines is down, especially the perks. As a salesman, I hated their methodology (like the car sales mentality, including the sh!tty T.O., no personality closers and if the sales rep didn't have a commitment, there was little help to close deals. Not that anyone here would care except the attitude in which the sales staff was treated would untimately trickle down to the prospects.

Also, and this is a hoot, , most tours originated from Freemont Street, home of the $29 rooms and those folks were stretching their budget just to stay there. There was no way they could buy any timeshare (I mean vacation ownership). Let's just say these people were well coached by the OPC to make sure they qualified for the tour. Management at the resort were either too lame to figure it out ot simply didn't care. I think I toured homeless people once....

Sorry to hear you had such a bad experience. Our salesman turned ugly on us as well when he found out we weren't interested. He threatened to call the police and have us arrested if we didn't leave. If you have done nothing wrong, never let anyone intimidate you or shame you. We sat there and said we would wait for the police since we felt threatened. He turned a shade of red I've never seen before and after some more threats gave us our gifts and let us leave. Check out my thread for the whole story.

                    Timeshare Salesmen Suck!!!

Y'all are gonna love this one....

I took what I thought was an innocent job at Grandview doing the "exit interviews " and showing discount packages. Innocent stuff I thought.

$4995 for undeed usage for life, 1 2 or 3 BR in their "network" of approximately 100 resorts worldwide. Actually a decent deal all told.

This job turned out to be a living hell. First there was the professional timeshare "shoppers". Then there were the sick wierdos that bring their 3 kids to a timeshare tour that should have lasted the 90 minutes but went on for 4 hours, and these kids were like I said in Level 10 meltdown. All that for free tickets to the "V" show at the Planet Hollywood. And a lot of them just arrived that very day.

Many things wrong with the whole frigin idea. First you have people that are lied to when told about their tours lasting 90 minutes. Then you have the sales staff pounding on them for yet another 2 hours, the TOs working their magic and then the exit interview (haha) before they get gifted and dumped back back to their hotels, etc... And the lies are more creative from the people on tour, the pros so to speak. Kids in college, just bought a house and to be fair the ones that admitted they were there just for the freebies. Those I respected. At least they were truthful. Reminds me of the time I didn't tour a Bluegreen property and got $150 anyway. Long story there....

Folks the whole system of timeshare sales is that of greed and they take no prisoners. So it sucks for everyone.

I'm gone by Friday and out of the timeshare business. I never dreamed it was this bad. I toured at Trendwest and they had a shread of dignity. This place is to be avoided at ALL COSTS!!!

Need help with lawsuit again Fairfield Wyndham & RCI

We owned at Star Island {Orlando} and Bonnett Creek. We were gold members and had just upgraded at Bonnett Creek (Orlando), within 3 weeks we were finally able to stay for a few days at Star Island. Of course we were required to go to a Members Meeting. Boy was that a nightmare! The salesman threatened us that if we did not upgrade again that we would never be able to use our points. Now, remember we had just upgraded at Bonnett Creek 3 weeks prior to Gold Status. By law they are not suppose to upgrade again in that short of time. But the sales person was threatening us stating that the agent at Bonnett Creek screwed us over, and that the contract needed to be corrected. Well, after alot of trash we finally got out of the office thinking that we had fixed everything. After going over all of the paperwork, and putting down several more thousand dollars, we were astonished to see that our new monthly payment would be over $950.00 and another $300 in monthly maintenance fees! We called corporate and cancelled this so called upgrade right away. Well come to find out the paperwork disappeared and we were past the deadline to cancel the new contract! So, we told them we would not pay another cent until this was fixed. To top it off we NEVER were able to take a vacation, other than the one to Star Island. We had booked a trip to Hawaii and a few weeks prior to our trip to Hawaii we called the resort and gues what There was no record of our reservation. THen after banking all of the points with RCI, I spent a month trying to go somewhere with RCI and guess what..No where in the entire world had any availability. We were looking for something close to a year in advance. Fairfield Bonnett Creek is now wanting us to sign over the deed and for our effort they are offering us $100 to sign the deed back over to them. No way! I want all of my money back or my vacation time!! On top of all of this Fairfield is giving us a negative credit report stating that we have defaulted on a mortgage!! I can not beleive this company!! Any law suits?

Never buy a timeshare from Wyndham

Well the first thing to do if you haven't already is to find out which credit bureau (TransUnion, Experian or Equifax) has the derrogatories (bad credit info) and write them to explain your side of the story. Believe it or not, there's nothing Fairfield can or will do. They just report the info whether or not they're right or whether or not you agree with them. The credit bureaus will take your statement and put it on the record. You may need to hire an attorney to help unwind the bullsh!t, but these days with money being tight any bad credit can keep you from buying a home, re-fi, or getting a decent car loan and the really bad news is that any credit card company can jack your rates up just because of some other issue even if you pay them on time.

Used to be a 600 score would get you financed, now they're looking hard at low 700s. And all that over a timeshare. Maybe there's enough victims to bring a class action suit, but that can drag on and on for pennies on the dollar.....GOOD LUCK!!

My good news is that I am officially done with the timeshare business. It sucks, lying and conniving is encouraged and there is simply no money with the economy the way it is, which DOES NOT excuse the first two reasons. I sold my sleep lab in Ohio and am going back to the car business as an Internet Manager which is like a comparison between Mother Teresa and the big bad wolf. LOL

Charlie, congratulations in your career change to an Internet Manager for a car dealership. It sounds much better to me than selling for a timeshare developer with their very outdated and expensive marketing tools so no wonder that you get only pennies on the dollar if you have to sell your timeshare.

Timeshares in themselves are a great product because you vacation in style and you are more inclined to take your hard earned vacation because you have paid the maintenance fee for that year already besides the purchase price.

I hope you are not going to abandon our timeshare forum now since you are out of the timeshare business. I enjoyed reading your posts and read some of them again tonight.

                            Umm?

I did not realize there is a law. If there is a law, sue them. By the way, there is no require to go to owner's meeting, I only go if I like the gift or if I want to know how well their sale goes. I don't go especially if I only have a short stay.

Since you try to cancel it immdeiatedly, with or without contract, should not prevent you to send them something in writing. Not sure why you just place a call. Who have you talked? I will suggest if you have not send something in writing, do it so. And maybe cc to Frank and BBB. Just tell them you tried to immediatedly cancell that contract and all the things happened as you posted.

By the way, you have too many TS. Since your email address show you also are Wetsgate owner. I heard their saleman are worse than Wyndham. Sorry you have to deal with one bad and one worse.

Thank you for the kind words. I thought I would get flamed for going from one frying pan to the other, but in reality working at a car dealership is way up on the food chain than selling timeshares. Besides I actually help people get the lowest prices rather than screwing them to spend more, AND I get to drive really cool cars!

Don't worry I am not going anywhere. If there is someone I can help either before or after the fact, I will do so with enthusiasm. I think the pondscum that sell timeshare and the methods used are borderline criminal; the real prizes are the managers who pound the tours into the next stone age, and expect them to lay down. The best job I had in timeshare was phoning current owners and doing upgrades. At least I spoke with owners, most were enthusiastic about their decisions, and I didn't feel like I had to wash my conscience.

You all should see what some of the better ones drive. Beemers, Benzes, Vettes, Porches etc....and they didn't get those toys from being shall we say consumer friendly. LOL

I call em like I see em.

And to answer your question, Is a sleep lab the same as a sleep apnea center? Yes, exactly the same. Sleep apnea can be fatal. Hope you don't have it and if you think you do, are tired even after a good nights sleep, and snore, get it checked out.

THEY ALL SUCK. I've worked at 3 TS's and I wouldn't deficate on most of these creatures. Harsh words? You betcha. I say that after about a year in timeshare sales of one kind or another, and seeing some of these smooth operators in business.
