We just went on a timeshare owners update at Wyndham in Kona HI. The guy was cool and a real pro who had been in the business for a long time with multiple companies in Hawaii. We chit chatted a bit about timeshare, HI, etc and he asked us what we wanted to get out of the meeting. I wanted some information on their inventory and system and what they are selling now (San Fransisco). Before we went any further he knew very clearly who we were.....we bought resale at a bargain price at one of their newest resorts. He originally thought we were the original owners (suckers) that paid $133,000 for 805,000 FSP points....yes that is right....I saw the paperwork he had pulled up from the system. Unfreakingbelievable that someone paid that kind of money for what we got for pennies on the dollar. I told him the bargain we got and he agreed that we did great. I did not antagonize him about how points are even way cheaper than what we paid but we paid what we did because we wanted ARP at that particular resort. He did not crap on us at all. We talked about a few things that resale does not get but it did not add up to squat and we both new it and discussed it. He answered any question we wanted and we had a few but did not want to waste anymore of his time. He escorted us down to the exit closing table and told us to hold on....he talked to the guy in charge and then waved us over saying he was taking us to gifting and said he did not want to put us through that especially considering what we had bought and for how much. Nice guy and a pro all the way....he knew it was a numbers game and he played it cool.

We had a tour at the same place about two years ago and got a woman who worked with her husband there and all she could do was talk about herself and how great she and here husband were and how they used their own points for airfare, lodging, blah blah blah. We were just TPI exchangers then and had to stay for the grueling 90+ minutes of this womans drivel which was a total waste of time....we learned very little. But we did learn enough to do more research and then become owners......resale that is....black gold.....we learned from timeshare forums.

John, what would a re-sale buyer can expect to pay for 805,000 FSP points? I am not asking what you paid as it may have been less but what the norm is so I have an idea. Do people really lose 90% of their purchase value when they walk out of a sales office? I hope not.

I am glad you had a pleasant update. We did one at the MP in NV and the other one at the Wyndham on Waikiki Beach a few years ago and both were a good experience. We ended up talking politics and general economics as they knew from the beginning that we weren't going to buy but they weren't in a hurry to get rid of us either.

      How was the lava flow?

That was the total contract.....the number included financing and a pic sp? trade in value of 25k. So I guess he felt they got a real bargain with that trade in. Sheeshe.

Thanks for the heads up! We have a "free" weekend with them to take in the next year. We may not do it after reading this!

              Edie,

Wyndham has a great points system to use timeshares. Generally very good and nice resorts in good locations. If you are interested in Wyndham, go and visit, just remember that you can purchase Wyndham resale for 10% to 20% of the developer price.

Come here and learn. One of the most flexible systems in the timeshare world. There are other systems too that you might be interested in.

Especially the TOs, who resort to insults and the like to get their point across.

You're attitude towards the salesman is both admirable and respectful and I would hope you never are treated otherwise.
Charlie, I know that you are back to Internet sales for new cars which will make you feel much better as you are selling people exactly what they want to have in a new car and not at inflated prices like timeshares are that are bought directly from a developer.

I feel that the developers are at fault. They lure prospects off the street or anywhere they can find them and promise them freebies and hope to have them buy on impulse at their resorts. They are selling the product at a ridiculous high price because of such a deceitful system but it must have worked out for them for many years but for how much longer? People are getting educated with searching everything on the Internet.

The developers are more guilty of wasting the salesman's time because they know that it is a number's game and they don't care which salesman sells the product. The salesman either must believe the garbage the developers put out or they lie about it or they will not last and get fired or quit on their own accord. You did the right thing by quitting, imho. Aren't you glad you are away from timeshare sales unless you were selling re-sales now as an independent broker as you would really serve your buyers here with a great product but at the right price?

So it is really true that you lose 80 to 90% of the value of your purchase price the moment you walk out of the sales office with your contract still in your hands and the ink not even dry. This is absolutely awful.

Again that is sheer lunacy. Crimeshare. Sounds appropriate?
BTW, is it the L A Angels or Anaheim Angels...I can never remember

They are looking good though, think they can hold that lead?

Since you should be buying resale anyway, you need not deal with TS salemen in the furture.
