Someone is punking us to see how long we'll discuss this.

Even me, a Wastegate Hater Lover, said, "Even if this story is bogus, it is not far from reality," cuz, even for Wastegate it is a little far-fetched, and the OP expressed things seemed a little unusual.
But, as to being sleazy jerks, and as to stretching 90 minutes into four hours, I know that to be fact. Our last presentation, 2 Decembers ago, by the time we got to the third line after the presentation, there were some very irrate, yelling people, waiting for their Disney tickets, and no one with Wastegate made any effort at all to calm them down. I'm sure the folks in gifting are used to it.
As for our presentation that time, after asking the stock survey question, a copy of which our sales dude conveniently left for us while while we ate, and our truthful answers were all not what he wanted to hear . . . we have been on 100 exchanges, we are checking in to a 3-bedroom at Orange Lake Saturday . . . then we have a week over near Sanibel . . . we have these early days off priceline for $35, he said he didn't have anything for us, except an EOY so we could get unlimited Getaways to Disney.
Except for the Disney part, that was the same pitch as 20 years ago, and the same pitch everyone around us was getting.
After that, he looked at his watch and said we had another hour, told us to sit there, and he would come back when we could go to gifting.
And that's what he did. And that's what we did.

I am new to timeshares, don't actually own one, and know I want nothing to do with them - ever. Maybe I am very niave, but where are our elected officials, the media, not putting pressure on these companies and their tactics? They may be skirting the law, but if enouigh pressure were put on them, they would feel the heat. Why isn't anyone looking carefully at these scamsters? Where are TV shows like 60 minutes, FOX news, and all the others?

Westgate is about as bad as it gets in this country. Timeshares may again be a good value when the economy fully recovers and hotel/motel rates skyrocket. The key for value is to buy resale at a well run resort with an HOA that is not developer controlled.
