I am shocked and dismayed to hear of Marriott's charade.

At $1000 a night, I too would have put up a fight.

Next time be smart, and choose better options from the start.

For a much better range, you should rent, or exchange.

That being said, I'm sorry to hear about your dread.
    Angela

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

After more than a dozen stays at various Marriott timeshares, all on exchange or owner reservations, I'm a little surprised and more than a little doubtful about this report.

Pictures you say? Well why on post away? I'd like to see them so I can believe them. If what you say is true then I'm sure owner there are feeling blue.

Did the Marriott charge you $1,000 per night or an owner? Most charge a lot less and certainly today. What condo # were you staying in and what building? We found the staff friendly and had no complaints. There were a few issues but they were taken care of immediately. You get more done with a friendly smile rather than bullying the staff.

I guess if I were paying $1,000/night, I'd be expecting better than perfection. But then again, I'd never spend $1,000/night for just a timeshare unit. At that price, I'd better be in one of the fancier hotel with all the bells, whistles and services that go with the top hotels around the world. At $1,000/night, I darn sure wouldn't want to be in a timeshare where I'm making my own bed.

            Hello Canyongirl.
            Welcome to TS4Ms.....

As to your first post - it does seem a bit weird that u had all those problems at the Marriott, a highly rated and well thought of resort.
Regardless of what it cost you - you should be satisfied with your stay - take it up directly with Marriott.

I am going in 2 weeks, I booked before they announced the pool was closed for 2 months, that is a major letdown, staying 2 weeks in the new towers, tiny pool should be fun. NOT! We are bringing our 14 and 15 year old for the first time, it will be interesting, the pool really makes the resort for us. We have booked several rooms at the Westin for friends,so we have a studio we can use, at least we can use their pool. It is interesting that they waited quite a while to announce the pool closing, well after a lot of people already booked air, I am sure they Knew the resort would be a ghost town if they gave too much notice.

I find it a little interesting that it is the first post for the OP. Also, do they really rent for $1,000 per night? I find that hard to believe unless I am living in a cacoon.

I have noticed before that when a person has their first post or at least a very low number some here question what is shared here is somehow not true or sometime question why they are posting here at all.
What happened to the welcome mat ?
People show up here to gather good information. We should help them get the most of what they have and help them with problems.
I don't understand some of the attitudes here.
                  Have a good day!

                      Timeshare from hell.

                      Thanyou one and all.
I wrote only to give awareness of scams.
The maintaince fee is $1300+ dollars for 1 week
                      The purchase price over $14,000.
                      We were duped.
Our money is tight and this was a fright.

Well, canyongirl, if you are just writing to make folks aware, the chances are that straight talk would be better than poems.

While we could sympathize with someone who had a tough time of it, or who felt badly treated, your story has so many holes in it, and promises proof but doesn't give it.

If your problem is that you bought a timeshare without understanding the annual maintenance fee and other parts of the system of timesharing, then we can help you understand.

You have no history here, no background that we can understand, so the first post was not well received by me, and that is my error...I apologize for not being more patient.

However, that being said, there are ways to get help from this community, and we have a great record of helping people....given you have only posted 2 times, it is near impossible to know how or if we can help.

Nothing in my experience with any Marriott t.s. has ever come close to your description, especially being cursed at by a staff member.

It is beyond believable to think that the resort would allow such behavior.

If you want to be part of this community, you are most welcome....however, straight talking is more helpful than badly worded reports in bad rhyme.

We have many many years of experience and wisdom in our collective community and you are welcome to try to get us to help. But, if you are here just to post anonymous and unsubstantiated complaints...you will be challenged.
Life is short, live it with this awareness.

OK, Let's start at the begining. You haven't paid $1,000/night unless you allow this first experience to ruin all future experiences. I have pictures to but, my pictures cover probably 8 years of our 11 years vacationing in timeshares. Perhaps, before you toss the baby out with the bath water, you might want to take a peek at what timesharing can be. The link to our photo album is at the bottome of my post.

While no totally unheard of, you experience is very much in the minority for a Marriott timeshare. We've owned with Marriott since 2001 and have stayed in 1 to 3 Marriott timeshare resorts per year. As of yet, we have never experienced the level of problems you've posted about. Like others have said, I would like to see the pictures.

On the line of pictures, Marriott has it's own owner elected HOA/BOD that is responsible for the day to day operations of the resort, and thus it's quality, not all Marriott timeshares will be equal. I have seen pics of Beachplace Towers in Fort Lauderdale before there most recent renovation. If I had been an owner there, I'd have been upset as well. There was discussions from Marriott that, if certain things weren't done, they'd pull their name from the timeshare. Fortunately that didn't happen and adaquate upgrades were made. Now it's up to the timeshares HOA/BOD and it's owners to maintain the property to Marriott standards or, they'll go through that painful process again.

Rest assured you experience is NOT the norm for Marriott. Stick around and learn about what you've spent all this money on before trashing it completely. Marriott does have some of the better timeshares in the industry but, they are some of the more expensive timeshares around there.

And if you have pictures as you say, then post them or post a link to them. Webshots, Flickr, Picturetrail are a few websites where you can host your photo's if you don't know how to post them directly onto this site.

I understand now how you got to $1,000 per night as you included the sales price. I don't understand why the resort wouldn't give you another condo if you had water damage in the room and bugs crawling on your wall. I doubt if the resort was completely full since the pool was being torn up during your stay which was bad luck for you but also necessary. Many people decided not to go once it became a known fact. We were notified several months in advance plus it was posted on their web site but, I agree, that many people could no longer cancel the flight so, they too, are disappointed but there is a beautiful beach in front of the resort. Boogie boards are very popular here and they were giving lessons. Forget snorkeling but Black Rock isn't far.

There is a whole forum dedicated to how to buy, sell or exchange your Marriott timeshare and since you own in this time period, you have very good exchange power so not all is lost or you could just sell it and get done with it but most likely at a loss today because the economy is in a slump and re-sale prices have gone down a lot. If I were you, I would have taken this up with the front desk or housekeeping manager if you didn't get anywhere with the regular staff. I still don't believe that they cursed at you because most people here are very friendly. We were just there and this was our honest impression.

You will learn a lot here or here.

Most of the people that I know feel they were taken and wouldn't do it again. The people on this site that know how to work timeshares should start some kind of company. For all the money I've shoved into a timeshare I'd be happy to pay a fee to quit losing cash on a shady investment. For the timeshares that say they are losing money...how do you lose money at MF's plus SA's times 52 per unit.
