  • Need help with Berkshires problem now. Thanks.

    Hi,
I've got a little problem and was hoping you all could help me decide what to do. I am staying in the Berkshires now at Stonegate (love it), but my 83 year old aunt just took a fall on the stairs and I am afraid she will fall again if we stay here all week. She fell last week on Cape Cod and I already took her to cape cod hospital and don't want to go again so here is my problem.

I want to move to a more handicap friendly resort but stay here in the Berkshires or maybe upstate New York closeby.

Does anyone know of an RCI resort that I can call RCI and see if they will help me move to? Does RCI do this kind of thing? Will they charge me a fee to move? Has anyone had this type of experience and had RCI help?

    Thanks for any help.

I'm not an expert, but I think there are handicapped units at Oak N Spruce. We stayed there last year and the unit (a regular, non-handicapped unit) was all on one level. You would need to be on the first floor--there are no elevators. I remember there are stairs here and there--a few to get into the main check-in building, and then a few more here and there inside that building. I can't remember how you get to the indoor pool, but I think there are stairs....

Yes, call RCI and throw yourselves on their mercy. My feeling is that it's really up to them whether they will help you are not, depending on availability at other resorts.

If you need a hospital, there's the medical center in Albany, NY, is respected. About an hour from the Berkshires.

      Christine,

Call RCI NOW and see if they can assist. We cannot see today/tomorrow check-ins on line but they have a special desk that can and maybe, just maybe they will help you. If they can't do it this evening maybe call first thing tomorrow.

I am so sorry for your troubles. Please let is know how you make out.

There are other RCI resorts in the area, Bentley Brook, Vacation Village, Wind in the Pines and Oak 'n Spruce come to mind immediately, and I think there are others.

Probably best just to call RCI now and see if they can do something for you.

Vacation Village in the Berkshires and Wyndham Bentley Brook may also have handicapped units. I'm afraid I haven't stayed in either one, though. Good luck!

I think Wind in the Pines is like Stonegate--more like a house? The other three are big resorts.

Thanks guys. Thankfully she did not get hurt this time and we don't need a hospital but I don't want to push it anymore. She is very depressed with herself and I figure if I can at least get her somewhere where she is comfortable then maybe we can salvage the rest of the week.
              Thanks Lawren for your encouragement.
I'm gonna call RCI and see what they say. If I get nowhere today maybe I'll try in the morning again with another person.

Well I called RCI and the Vacation guide told me that he could not help me but that he would have a supervisor call me back in 2 hours and see if they could do something for me. I guess I'll just have to wait to see if they'll help. I'm sad to move from here, it's really a nice place.

I have heard that RCI will accomodate you if they can and there are a few places that Brian and I saw ( in the brief moments we could access on-line) available for this week. They should be in their best "help the member" mode after this last week.

You'd be very happy if they manage VV in the Berkshires.

                  Fingers crossed.

Well that would be fair considering that I traded my vacation villages at Parkway in Kissimmee for this. I am going to request it since I'm an owner there. Maybe they'll do it for me then. I am keeping my fingers crossed and saying a little prayer too. I'll keep you posted.. My laptop battery is dying and I'm sitting on the porch now so I'll have to recharge it before I can get online again. I can only get the wi fi to work on the back porch. It's okay though I'm enjoying the squirrels. Maybe I'll return here by myself another time.

Should RCI not move you, there is one thing in Stonegate's favor, Fairview Hospital is probably within walking distance of the resort. You might also try contacting the resort to see if they can switch you, sometimes resort management is more helpful than RCI.

Tony you are right. Fire rescue came and they said they are down the street and I saw the hospital this morning when I went sight seeing. The manager here is very nice so if I get nowhere with RCI, I'll try her on Monday. dont' want to bother her this weekend on her time off. thanks.

So I spoke to a supervisor at RCI last night and he said that there was nowhere that we could move. Hard to believe since the sites we have all to ourselves up here. Anyway, he said that he would call me if he saw something come up but of course with their screwy new computer system that is a fat chance that I'll hear back from him. Anyway he said that the cancellation list gets sent to them on Mondays so I guess I'll have to wait until then. He did offer me that if they cannot accomodate me then they would refund me my points and my exchange fee if I had to pay for another place. So at least they were nice about it even if they can't accomodate me. I guess they didn't have to do that but maybe since they've been down for so long they are going out of their way to be extra nice. Let's see what happens. I've thought about calling the resort directly to see if they have anything that they could negotiate with RCI on my behalf. Has anyone done this?

Calling the resort is worth a try. I don't see how it could hurt. Especially if they have a room sitting empty. Good luck. And I would call RCI AGAIN.

Yes, I would call the resorts directly. Honestly, you're kind of in a situation where you HAVE to move, whether RCI helps you or not, right? So you might as well see which resort has a suitable unit available. Then if RCI gets it for you, great, and if you have to pay for it out of pocket, then maybe the resort will give you a break on the price.
