and what should the resort do? Give it to her for free?

Just being the devil's advocate here.

Perhaps if you called RCI affiliated resorts and asked if they had an RCI no show or cancellation but I don't think it would mean anything coming from you.

The RCI supervisor did give you what sounds like a valid answer. That they gets the lists on Monday from the resorts. Surely you can put up with one more day until he or she gets a chance to work on your problem..but I would call them around noon just to make sure you haven't been forgotten.

No, I wasn't suggesting that they should. I mentioned paying for it "out of pocket." That means, yes, paying for it.

Vacation Village used to have discount rates for RCI members if you have to move and RCI can't do it. But I think you might do ok tomorrow, fingers crossed.

Wind in the Pines is a converted motel w/no elevator. The other places are nicer and larger, more chance of a vacancy.

Just wanted to update everyone and thank you all for the suggestions it was very helpful. I am learning how to get what I want from RCI and also what to do when a problem arises. In the past before I joined this forum I probably would have been stuck paying for a motel.

Now I've learned so much that I'm happy to report that I called Vacation Villages on Sunday morning early and spoke to the General Manager, Mark, a very nice man who was extremely helpful. Especially when I mentioned that I traded my VV in Kissimmee for Stonegate because there was no exchanges available when I booked my vacation. So he was super super nice enough to put a room on hold for me and even offer it to me on Sunday and he would deal with RCI on Monday. Imagine that? I was really shocked. Since things were going so good I dared to ask for a 2 bedroom like my unit in Kissimmee and guess what? He upgraded me too to a beautiful 2 bedroom lockoff with 2kitchens and 2 baths and 4 flat screen TV's.

I have to admit that the manager on duty at RCI, Everett was much more helpful than the previous manager that I spoke to. He called me within 15 minutes and when I explained the situation he volunteered to call VV and speak with Mark and gave them his email address and fax etc. so that we could move on Sunday evening. He even called me back to let me know that he had taken care of everything and made sure that I was aware.

So it was great advice from everyone here to make the call myself to the resorts and find the room myself because depending on who is on duty at RCI you will either get someone willing to help or make you wait. I'm glad we didn't have to wait anymore but I was sad to leave Stonegate. It is such a drastic diffrerence here at VV. It's real nice with everything brand new but it is a little remote compared to Stonegate and Stonegate is so charming with that turn of the century feel.

But lesson learned. Don't vacation in the older resorts with the Senior crowd, at least with ones that have slight mobility problems. So I traded charming for practical but at least I didn't have to pay out of pocket to salvage this trip. Thanks everyone for your help.

Excellent end to the story Christine!

I'm so glad it all worked out and even RCI did the "right" thing without being pushed too hard or threatened.

I know, I can't believe it myself after all the negativity about RCI usually read about everywhere. Maybe they were just on their best behavior because of the website disaster these last few days now running into weeks. But honestly I think that asking for a different manager made the difference because Everet certainly had a "let's get it done" attitude which the first manager did not. But since I was of course asking for a favor I didn't want to push my luck with the first guy. Luckily the VV manager also had a "let's just get it done" attitude too. I guess they are showing that they are true leaders and can make decisions and not defer it til they get "permission".

It always makes a difference on who you speak to at ANY call center. When I get someone who goes out of their way I always put a kudo letter in for them.

I am not as negative about RCI as most. I have seen plenty of changes I do not particularly care for, but in the end the majority of my experiences with RCI have been good.

It helps to understand the inticacies of how to work with them as opposed to against them.

Well that is definetely a good idea. I am going to send a letter when i get home praising Everet and the VV manager too. Hopefully I won't get them in trouble for bending any rules but I think they should get recognition for their "can do" attitude.
I do see some problems with RCI but honestly I've had mostly good experiences with them except for the new exchange fee $189 ouch.

I agree that who you speak to can make a huge difference. And you were also lucky in that you were in a solvable situation. It's not prime season, VV had the units, and is an RCI partner resort (whatever that means, but they have a much closer relationship with RCI than many). If it was July 4th weekend, you'd have likely had a harder time.

And that my friend is a huge reason why I like to travel off peak. I don't like to compete for everything especially not my room and restaurants. I deal with that everyday in my hometown Miami hence the reason why I work weekends and take my days off during the week. I always try to work around the herd except of course in Disney at Food & Wine. Can't help that one much.
