We have stayed at Aviara numerous times and have seen dogs as large as St Bernards ...they have 2 buildings set aside strictly for pets.

The Timeshare Beat - Pet Friendly Timeshare Resorts

      Pet Friendly Timeshare Resorts

If you are one of the 29 million dog owners who like to travel with your pet, you will be happy to know that a growing number of timeshare resorts will now welcome you and your pooch.

The following is a list of resorts in the U.S. and Canada that allowed pets as of late 2004.
But you need to call to verify before booking. Most pet friendly resorts have a limited number of units for Fido, so you will need to make arrangements early. If your resort is not listed below, send us an email with the resort name, ID and state, province or country and we will list it for free.

      Email: pets@thetimesharebeat.com

If you would like your listing to link to your Web site,
or would like a larger advertisement, please email

      classifieds@thetimesharebeat.com for more information.

      New August 28:
#5487 The Cabins at Green Mountain in Branson Missouri will allow a dog.
Call for availability to Festiva Reservations

I was researching this earlier this year......one needs to call and confirm with the hotel or timeshare what the policy is. I found a number of discrepancies from what was on some of these web sites. You do not want a surprise....be sure to call and confirm that they do accept pets and what size.

There are also some resorts that allow owners to have pets there, but not exchangers, and thus the quasi-pet-friendly policy is not mentioned in RCI catalogue. I've a friend who ended up at an Ocean City "resort" and ended up in hospital ER with a severe allergic reaction to pet dander...and she had no way to know pets had slept in that unit and even dined out of their dishware (there was pet hair on bed linens and even in cereal and salad bowls). Let the timesharer beware seems to be the order of the day.

Question: Has anyone taken a small pet with you?

We have a parrot and no one in our family likes to take care of it while we are gone. It is not noisy and would not be loose in the room...Has anyone ever tried taking a caged critter?

We have more than the above listed in the database. Most of the resorts have been contacted for specific fee structures associated with the pets.

Always double check with the resort!

This question came up at the last Florida Timeshare Owners Group meeting in Venice, FL....

Here are some suggestions I normally give to clients:

ALWAYS be sure to double check with the resort before you travel! Some resorts that appear on pet friendly lists have limitations.. And resort policies can change without notice! Common questions you should ask are:

*Are pets allowed in the villas or required to be placed in kennels? (some resorts show as pet friendly but offer onsite kennels)

*Is there limited availability of pet-friendly units? (some resorts have a limited number of units available to pet owners and you must request this)

*Where are pets allowed on the property? (some resorts have onsite campground sections and only allow pets there- not in the timeshare villas)

*What are the size and breed limitations?

*Are additional fees required for the pet?

Finally, let your vet know you plan to be traveling with your pet and get contact info in case you need to reach them! Also, remember to look up local vets in the areas you travel to.. In the event of an emergency- you don't want to be unprepared!

I'm ok with my dog staying in a room, but you mean I have to sleep in a room that had someone else's dog???? Seriously??
