State of the Industry 2010: The Worst is Over? | Timeshare News & Info

We stopped by the Marriott NCVs the other day and asked a few questions without an official tour so prices weren't even discussed.

They told us that the owners, at that resort, were converting to the new internal EP and buying points. In other words, the program was well received and one couple, who already own 18 weeks, bought $70,000 worth in points. Will that really solve their problem to get the summer weeks that everyone is trying to get?

Judging by the parking lot here at Grande Vista this week, people are still travelling. The stores here are full and the Golden Corral was overrun with Pop Warner peeps. The little buses are driving with people inside doing the tours of this resort. It's hard to believe there is a recession if you come to Orlando but I have to say that no one has called me to do the tour yet.

What they don't say tells it all. For example, they don't disclose the percentage of existing owners buying upgrades comparative to NEW buyers in relation to new sales. This is information that I am sure that they intentionally did not disclose, IMO.

I think the Orlando area is probably a little more recession-proof than other vacation spots. People will always have a yearning to see Disney and those who have been seem to always want to go back (maybe there's something in the water at WDW). Even those with tight budgets somehow manage to make the trip, though they may not spend as much time or money as they would when the economy is good. Orlando also has other draws (like Sea World, Universal) for those who don't like Disney.
