  • Buying from a zero rated seller?

I've seen an auction on ebay for a TS, I own this TS currently and interested in buy more points. E Bay link
Normal price is about $1600- $2000 (plus most ebay reseller are charging a bogus closing fee of $450 and the resort transfer fee). The TS was just relisted for $500 after no bids came in at $1000. No closing costs just resort transfer fee.

    Problems
    1. Seller is Zero rated
    2. Sellers ad is terrible, says TS was his parents, full of inaccurate comments, ECT...

I can verify with the resort his info and it really is a steal but I'm hesitating.

    What do you think?

If you can verify info and choose your own closing/escrow service (or are familiar with the one he is using), then your downside is minimal. I wouldn't send a 0 rated seller (who clearly doesn't know what he/she is doing) any deposit money though, and I would insist on escrow.

      Hmmmmm.....that's a tuff one.

You'd have to verify with resort, and then do a title search. I would also pay with pay pal, and use a credit card that covers you for fraud.

I know some would suggest that you pass it up, but I know how hard it is to pass up a great deal.

If it goes for a great price, and you cover yourself as best you can, I would probably go for it.

However, I'm not the most cautious person to begin with.....

        Thanks for the input.

One other thing, This is a pure point TS membership. So there no deed just a membership. ( I'm comfortable with this)

But, this means no deed, no closing company, only paperwork needed is a letter to the resort (and $100 resort fee) asking for the membeship to be transfered.

I think I'll go for it. But first, it has been suggested that I'll ask the guy to call me. I can feel him out, which I'll do.

        Thanks

You know the resort. You know what information is important and what to verify. You have the ability to independently verify the information. And you can take advantage of this to get a property you want a price well below market.

Pardon me, but, if all of the due diligence checks out on this, this is just about as close to a no-brainer as you are ever likely to come across.

The only risk you face is that the buyer is a flake or a fraud, which you protect againxt by using an escrow service of your choosing.
“Maybe you shouldn't dress like that.”

“This is a blouse and skirt. I don't know what you're talking about.”

          “You shouldn't wear that body.”

            Thanks Steve,

When you put it that way it really is a no-brainer.

Good Luck, I am usually an overly trusting ebay buyer. I was burn once but was able to get it settled without to much hassle. It was not a timeshare transaction though.

As long as you do your due diligence...everyone has had a zero feedback at one time!

Another member of this board won the auction. He said the sellers isn't happy with the final price and may not sell.

This seller is such a flake. If he had put any effort into the Ebay ad, he may have sold the TS for 2-3 times more than what it sold for.

He is a Zero rated seller, who didn't know what is was doing and since his ad was so full of inaccurate facts, no one wanted to bid. So it sold for $20 more than the opening bid.

I know, as an Ebay seller, you are expected to sell at the winning bid but this guy is such a flake and is thinking of just not selling at the winning bid.

If he does not give it to you , Then threaten to leave negative feed back, then tell him that you will report him to eBay and that they may suspend his account. Then he will think that he won't get anything for it and may give it to you.

All of that might work on someone who cares about Ebay, I don't think he does.

He may think twice if he feels he can not resell it on Ebay.
