  • 4br LO Tri-annual traded to (2) 1br's and (1) 2br's?

    Is it possible to Trade a 4br LO Tri-annual into (2) 1br's and (1) 2br

I'm trying to figure out if thats even possible...I saw this Ad on Ebay...I'm not going to bid on it(This one only floats 1-8, so its no good)...but it got me thinking...If i deposit Both 2br sides into II separately(assuming i get most popular week), can i exchange one for two 1br's and the other for a 2br?
WILLIAMSBURG PLANTATION VIRGINIA FLOATING TIMESHARE | eBay

    Costs over 3 years

    MF's = $800
    RCI/II Membership = $300
    Two Exchanges = $450
    Total cost = $1550

Estimated cost per year = $516.67
Estimated Cost per vacation day = $73.81

I'm i figuring the math wrong? Obvious i'm not including the quality of the resorts i'll be trading into, as that is had to get a economic figure on...But is this how people deal with Tri-annuals?

I can't answer the lockoff question, but someone more familiar with the resort should be along shortly. Assuming you can do what you are thinking:

If you get use of it every third year, then your total cost would be divided across two vacations (if you are using II). The annual cost is somewhat meaningless since you're really getting two weeks every three years. [eta: You won't necessarily get three exchanges from II - they might do it if there were two smaller units available at the same time for the same dates but they won't give you two separate 1 bedrooms for different dates/places in exchange for a 1 bedroom deposit].

In RCI, you might get more or less than two weeks, depending on the trading power assigned to your deposits, and your RCI fees may vary accordingly.

I believe you will only be able to get 2 exchanges for your 2 deposits.

Alright cool...So that means i can't exchange a single week 2br into two weeks of 1br, right?

II may give the OP two 1 bedrooms or a 1 bedroom and a studio if they are booked at the same time and the OP pays an extra exchange fee. Not something to count on, though.

In II, that's correct, you cannot. If there were two smaller units available for the same dates at the same resort and you wanted both, they might do it for an extra exchange fee, depending on size.

Ok, thank you! That does help alot...While i may occasionally be able to trade into (2) 1br unit or a 1br and studio from my 2br deposit....It shouldn't be considered something that likely or a given....

So with a Tri-annual LO i can expect to only be able to use it two out of the three years...at most, except for that one in a million where i'll get really lucky!

Thank you! (This means i'll be looking for a Biannual LO Now)

True with II. Your mileage may vary with RCI - if you have an RCI account (if your resort is RCI affiliated), you can check the trading power you'd be given before depositing using the "deposit calculator." The number of weeks you'd be able to exchange for depends on the trading power required v. the trading power you have. Off season exchanges are offered at pretty big discounts so you could conceivably get numerous exchanges for your deposit (exchange fee for each), or you might only get one if you want something more desirable.

why include the waterpark costs? Presumably you'll have activity expenses anywhere you would trade into... Note that RCI exchange fee is $179 for online exchange, higher for telephone.

I hear you on there not being much else to do, I just meant that if you went to Orlando, for example, you'd have some high ticket activity fees, too. If you are comparing lodging costs, it should be apples to apples/week to week, not week-plus-activities compared to week only. You could (try to) estimate and compare the total cost of activities/dining/lodging at each place you are planning on visiting (if I did that, I'd never go anywhere ).

I'm kinda new to the game...so really all i know about Onsite Activity costs is the Water park at massanutten and the $5 activity fees at Kingsgate, i THINK Kingsgate makes you pay that fee, weather you plan on using the activities or not...While with Massanutten, your not forced to pay...But its something i would feel forced to do (Although i feel i could go to Orlando and avoid disney)

I went to Orlando and avoided Disney one time. We went to Universal instead

Ok, I'll leave you to your methods. If they work for you, that's all that matters. And you are at least doing your homework, which puts you ahead of the game to begin with.
