I know it will rub some of the current participants of this forum the wrong way, but some people have sounded like me before I sounded like me.

      Question

This is my opinion only. Sounds like a win - win situation for Diamond.

Now if the timeshare consumer community majority starts to complains in huge numbers and the newspapers, television media picks this up. Is this good public relation for any firm selling timeshare?

Heck, that was five years ago, and I was still aglow with timeshare ownership. In fact, I was even still accumulating. The eventual, ultimate situation had not arrived yet.

I don't have to do that this year.

              • Imagine that, someone else wanting to get rid of a timeshare.

Yup. And guess what? I gave it away after I exchanged the heck out of it.
And the new owners are happy with it and using the unit every year and just buying last calls thru RCI.

So it's possible to get rid of an unwanted timeshare after all.
I'm working on another unit now too and they even paid the $150 to do the transfer.
                  Get busy.

Donate for a Cause has been around for a long time. They are costly and may use questionable methods (viking ship along with other methods) but there aren't complaint sites that have post after post about DFC taking money and disappearing or taking money and the owner still end up with ownership. They seem to do what they claim (get the ownership out of your name). They charge another $1500-$2000 on top of their already high fees if you want the evaluation to take the tax deduction. As everyone points out on these sites, the value of a $1 or $0 or negative value TS is still $1 or less and you are opening up yourself to audits and legal questions if you claim more, the same holds true, there still aren't reports from those who actually paid the fee (which I'm sure many do) , claimed the tax break and then were audited with negative effects.

It seems like many turn to these types of organizations (and ones with even worse reputations or no reputations at all) as there first step in getting rid of a timeshare. Unfortunately for some owners who try and try to use other more acceptable methods to sell and give away it may be their only way to get rid of a timeshare.

Well, since this thread is about how to get rid of them, to help those who come here for that information, care to share your unique success?

                          It's not unique.
I paid the transfer on the first one and offered to teach them how to use RCI for the rentals.
Granted I own in FL on the beach so that might help over just a run of the mill mugwump swamp only purchased for trading.

Mine are in Ft. Lauderdale beach so many of my friends are actually well acquainted with these resorts since they visit me all the time.
They also have day use privileges with free parking, beach chairs, wifi and BBQ's.
I guess they are easier to give away because I bought them to use them, not to trade them.
I've owned them for 15 years and actually purchased them on ebay for very little money back in the early ebay days.

Your units have nice perks too but you are so negative nobody is gonna take them if you keep dissing them.
Free golf sure seems like a great perk for someone who likes golf. Why not try giving them away on a golf forum.
Maybe you'd find some takers there.

I also helped a friend "give away" a Liki Tiki unit in Orlando.
I set up her ebay ad for her and she had to pay one year's MF's and the closing costs but we got it out of her name.
People seem to love getting something for free so pay their MF's for a year or two if you have to.
And use a 3rd party closing company so they feel it's legit. Don't do the deed yourself.
I could have certainly done the deed myself cause I'm a realtor but wanted my buyers to feel the finality of this transaction.

So there, that's my great wisdom on getting rid of your unwanted timeshares.

No I have not. I do own a week that I know I can't get rid of without a company like this so I just keep on paying -(luckily MF's are just breaking $400 this year) but I can't say I haven't thought about it or looked into it. More and more timeshares are closing the loop that let owners get out this way by prohibiting transfer to any LLC or group or individual who they suspect may not take ownership and pay dues. I own another 2 weeks that aren't great but aren't bad but the resorts have instituted such high transfer fees $500+ that while it may have been possible to give away at one point now would require a $500-$1000 fee to give away a platinum ski park city studio or a platinum hilton head 3 br unit with average (not super high or super low) MF's. Depressing isn't it.

                                Yes.

It's only a problem for those it's a problem for, and not something those who don't have the problem have much compassion for.

                                You have mine.
