  • Tiger Traders

I am trying to buy a TS we plan on using often (Aruba), but I have heard alot of people talk about Tiger traders. We are also looking for a good (and cheaper) trader. I understand the theory, but can anyone give me any suggestions of Tiger traders in II? Thanks.

Anything which fits the description of a "tiger trader" can usually go right on the endangered species list. Ask the old South Africa buyers. There was one in the US, but a recent special assessment faded it's stripes/

The best advice is to look for a resort you like to go to (as Pat said) that has reasonable annual fees, no history of special assessments, in a high demand area and time with low supply with good management and an independent HOA. There are some out there, but they don't go up for sale often or at a very nice price and I'm looking and waiting secretly.
I've found through the years that loose lips sink trading power and raise prices.
What is great for me, may not fit what would be great for others.

Based on some of the things that happen to me so far I think TS management read these forums on a routine bases.

If you are looking to go to Aruba. Buy an II affiliated resort. You can get a TS in Aruba like La Cabana there you might get a good deal on or buy into the Marriott system. Marriott has a few nice timeshares there.

II is very sensitive to quality of the resort. If you can find an east coast (not Florida) or west coast coastal summer week at a 5 star resort, it should be a great trader into high end high demand timeshares. Of course, these will cost you several thousand dollars or more.

If you spend A LOT of time reading old posts, you should get a better idea of how different timeshares trade.

Worldmark sounds like a great product. There is a lot of information here and OY on how to make the best use of a Worldmark ownership. Good luck with the purchases.

Jsut to relate my most recent trading experiance.

I have 3 TS all which I can do float 1-52 fake deposits.

One is a 5 * SoCal Coast which cost me 144 points to reserve a 2 bd during the summer, 133 in the early fall or late spring and 111 pts for winter.

one is a non 5 * whistler 1 bed TS

one is a 5 * Whistler TS which we can reserve studio, 1 and 2 bd during any time of the year. Which can cost me as much as 220 pts for a ski week in a 2 bd unit and as little as 75 pts for a late fall 2 bd week.

What I found when looking for a fall Marriott Newport Coast (NCV) 2 bd exchange,
The non 5* whistler TS would only pull NCV if I was willing to give II a ski week or summer week, late spring or fall wouldn't pull anything.
The 5 * Whistler TS would pull almost all weeks in the fall from Oct - Feb if I gave them a 2 bed but I could pull it with the weakest weeks of the year (OCT-Nov). I couldn't pull it with a 1 bed unit even when it was a ski season week.
The Socal 5* could pull all weeks if it was a summer reservation but only a few weeks if I tried with a fall or winter deposit.

We ended up using a fall week at the 5* whistler TS which cost me only 75 pts or about 2 days of a ski week.

So, Bill, a non-5* one-bedroom Whistler ski or summer week would pull a fall NCV week, but a one-bedroom 5* Whistler ski week wouldn't? Do you have any idea why this might be?

Also, having "float 1-52 fake deposits" sounds very useful! Does anyone know if a lot of floating week resorts offer the ability to search with "fake" deposits before selecting your week?

You can search anytime with a "fake" deposit of a floating week by entering a reservation number in the box when prompted. You just enter a fake reservation number. I do this with Gardens to check trade power and it works nicely.

I think your question requires folks to provide info that they would rather hold close to the vest.

If a few know a 'secret Tiger trader'; and then told everyone else----it wouldn't take long for the status of that to change.

                          Am I correct?
