    Newest of Newbies here....

We have never even considered a timeshare before, but I am looking for the chance to have someplace to go every summer with my kids. I really don't care if it is near the ocean or on a lake, I mainly want someplace that is within a couple of hours drive from our home. (My wife would prefer the beach!) Is a timeshare feasible for this? I have figured out by reading this forum for the past hour that I would want to purchase a resale, not something from a salesman.

I am a teacher and my wife is a stay at home mom. We do not usually spend a great deal of money on vacations. Am I headed in the right direction here?

    Hi, and [SIGN]Welcome to TS4Ms[/SIGN]

A timeshare within driving distance might be perfect for you.... depending on where you live -- general area would help.

Where do you live? That could help us to suggest an area for you to buy.

Yes, where do you live? We live in NJ and we wanted something just like that. It's not quite what we got (although both our timeshares are within driving distance of our house), but we go on some very nice vacations now that we could never have afforded before.

My DH is a teacher and I work from a home office. I think there are a lot of teachers who own and use timeshares.

          We live in Houston.

Galveston is nearby and all the way down to Rockport is within a reasonable drive.

There are several timeshares in Galveston. Are you familiar with any of them? Do you like Galveston?

I don't really know Texas very well. Although my family lived in Galveston until I was about four years old!

                welcome to the Forums.....

Glitter, where were those weeks everyone picked up earlier in the year?
                Texas????

It could be just the thing as it trades with that user friendly company II and gets an AC....
                Just a thought....

It is at Lake Conroe. Not sure where that is in relation to Houston. Also not sure any of us who bought there are actually planning to stay there... there may be nicer places to buy to stay in, though the price is sure right... I am hoping our resident Texan will chime in.

I almost live in Conroe. Conroe is north of Houston.

That is because Texas is NOT on the DKIWTGBD list - but maybe Texans want to go to Lake Conroe....????

The place Grayfal is talking about is Inverness at Walden- Phase II. It's actually in Montgomery, I think, but it is near Lake Conroe. There are also a number of other timeshares in the area, and at least one really nice one in Galveston called Escapes to Galveston, that is rated 5* by Interval International.

Still, I am hoping our Moderator from Texas will see this, I'm sure he'll be a better source of ideas, but for starters:

If you look at Interval International | Login, you should be able to search the Resort Directory for timeshares in your area, then take a look in person when you have time. If they aren't full, they should show you a unit if you tell them you are consider buying a resale. If Inverness looks like a place you'd like to stay, they are selling them very cheap in an effort to get more dues-paying owners after a lot of defaults, so I'm guessing the place is in need of some help, but you may find it fine (I have never been there). If you find something else you prefer, you can start looking for resales.

You can also search the RCI Resort Directory at www.rci.com for others. If you want more info on Inverness, please feel free to contact me via PM.
