I'm new to the site and have just read through a few threads - I hope my request isn't too redundant.

Six years ago I purchased a points based timeshare (in Vegas of all places) with my boyfriend at the time. Well, needless to say, that relationship is over. And neither of us could afford the timeshare to begin with. Now many years down the road I find myself in a difficult financial situation, the ex unwilling/unable to contribute to the loan payments, and neither of us even able to afford the housekeeping or travel fees that would allow us to use the points. I still have another year left on the loan, a payment I can't begin to afford.

I would love to sell and just get the thing off my hands, but I'm guessing from the research I've done that's not likely to happen. Between ebay being flooded with $1 offers that no one's taking and all the scammers offering to sell my time share for thousands of dollars, I'm scared to do anything. Is there something I'm missing?

Is renting the points a viable option? Can I rent straight points that the buyer can choose how to use, or do I need to book something then try to sell it? How do I determine a reasonable asking price? How do I deal with all the paperwork invovled?

Sorry, lots of questions - I'm just glad to find a place where I can hope to get an honest answer. Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.

    Janna,

Because the rules concerning how you can use your points is specific to the timeshare company you own, please give a little more information:

What is the name of the timeshare?

How many points do you own?

What's the balance on the loan?

      Wyndham/Fairfield

      Mike,

Thanks for the response. I have an odd years (every other) 105,000 points memebership with Wyndham/Fairfield at the Grand Desert. The balance on the loan is $2754. Sadly, I've never even taken a vacation with them, so I'm not sure how much those points can get me or how the system works exactly.
