Before anyone gets too excited, take a peek at the inventory. Most of it is truly bottom-feeder stuff that I wouldn't pay $10 for. There's also some inventory that you have to pay extra for---and that's a small subset of the usual Extra Vacations stuff, often at higher-than-EV prices when you add it all up. There might well be some gems in there, but I've not seen one.
It's not nearly the deal/tragedy that it appears at first glance.

But it is 20,000 less opportunities for RCI members to exchange into and it does erode the value of timesharing by its very existence.

So it is all right with you that RCI rents out deposits? They are certainly not all bottom feeders....I have seen Aruba, Hawaii, Arizona, San Fran and many other great rentals on this site. Sure they may say (additional charge)...but the folks who do rent from this site are not paying also for an RCI membership....and they have no limitations, no 4 in one rules, no other mystery trading power in play....Life is short, live it with this awareness.

I knew I shouldn't have even bothered.
Please, feel free to continue today's "Two Minutes' Hate" while I continue to get great vacations at low costs.

I think an Exchange company should be just that.
The renting of "surplus weeks" shouldn't happen and certainly the withdrawing from the exchange pool of highlly desirable weeks for rental shouldn't happen.
Unfortunately RCI's terms and conditions state they can do what they wish with deposited weeks. That stinks and until people stop depositing with them they are likely to win the legal battles.
Hasn't affected me yet, still trading away, but I think the time is close, or perhaps here now next year, that it will.
Unfortunately I don't know what to replace RCI with, there is no adequate replacement hence we all put up with this nonsense and wait for the day when we can no longer do what we do.Mark B.

II does the same kind of thing but you have to be a member to buy. I don't mind so much on the low end stuff that nobody wants but I have seen premium stuff for sale that I can't trade for. I imagine as the units age they make them available for trade. Are all the units they sell deposited weeks or are some excess rooms that have been given to them by the resort?
