  • Just Cancelled Marriott Aruba Surf Club

We were in Aruba this past week and bought into the sales pitch and actually signed. Of course as reality and common sense kicked in, we realized that we shouldn't have rushed into it and so today, we notified company of our cancellation.

We took that experience as a lesson and now we are starting correctly by doing some research. We are definitely interested in purchasing but now I am overwhelmed as to where to start. We like Marriott but understands we can get cheaper if not bought directly from them. I've looked at EBAY and Craigslist and forums and there is so much information!

In the end, what I want to achieve is a sense that we got a great deal.

So where do I start? Some help from anyone who's been through this please!

You made the right decision in rescinding. There are many timeshare options out there. Take your time reading posts, and ask questions. Members here are more than happy to help you. If buying resale, keep in mind that many timeshares are listed for inflated prices, and you should offer only what it is worth. Here is a Marriott right of first refusal database to see what others are successfully paying to buy Marriott timeshares. ROFR

At the moment, Marriott is not exercising it's ROFR, so can most likely do a little better than the prices listed for the Surf Club. However, the chart that somerville linked to is a very good starting point.

I would also check into completed sales on Ebay......That too will give you a very good idea of the current market.

There are also some reputable brokers out there, along with Redweek.com, etc.

Take your time, and look into as many outlets as possible. Just remember, if you miss out on one deal, another is just around the corner. No rush.

      Good luck!!

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.
