So this is on 57th Street right off 6th ave - seems like a really nice location.

Reading your review makes me feel a bit sad that the Manhattan Club is one in four with RCI - but a good reminder that there are other exchange companies out there.

Interesting bathroom setup - definitely for 'friendly' people.

Yeah, I don't know what they were thinking when they designed that feature.

I guess these TS's think that it's something people want. When I stayed in Marriott Marbella the master bath had a half glass panel for a door that swings both ways and provided absolutely no privacy. They make the bathroom part of the room. Not my preference but seems to be many an architects idea of what people want in a bathroom on vacation.

Obviously designed with couples in mind. I still like to be able to shut the door for a private moment.

        Whatever.

Yes, that was weird plus when we were there in June, it made the bedroom very HOT with both of us showering in the open bathroom....
          I forgot about that!

RCI has this as an exchange. I pulled the info from there when I entered it into the database.

I agree Pat, the humidity was pretty bad, even in December I had to open the window to unfog the windows. Brrrrr. No extractor fans.

Good review. We have a confirmed exchange into HGVC West 57th for a week this August through SFX. We stayed at the Manhattan Club for a week in July, 2008 on an exchange with SFX. This time we requested HGVC based on recommendations from somebody that has stayed at both. I have a couple questions.

                1. Is there a business center with computers? That is one thing the Manhattan Club has that is very good and is free. I never take my laptop on vacation.
                2. The breakfast costs $25.00 per person?

Yes, there is a computer near the fitness center. They also having remote printing capabilities from the room for those who do bring their computers.

Yes, the breakfast really is $25 per person. That's why I suggested an alternate place to eat breakfast. There are a number of restaurants in the area that serve breakfast. The Cafe Metro makes the breakfasts to order - eggs, French toast, pancakes... They have bagels and a number of cream cheese spreads. A lot of locals come in for breakfast there. You can easily tell the locals from the visitors.

HGVC is very close to the Manhattan Club. The 1 in 4 or 1 in 5 ( Grand Mayan/Mayan Palace ) with RCI is a very harsh restriction. SFX doesn't have any restrictions so you can visit as often as you want. We did the HGVC/Flamingo in Las Vegas 4 times in one year and we have visited the Grand Mayan 5 times.

The Cafe Metro sounds great. I missed that one when we stayed at the Manhattan Club which is right near there. We did the breakfast at the Manhattan Club ( $12.95 /pp ) a couple times because we were too lazy to go out. Usually we skipped breakfast and had an early lunch at the Carnegie Deli.

If you're in the Times Square area, look for the Edison Cafe, associated with the Edison Hotel. We had lunch there twice. No fancy pretenses at all. DH had pastrami and a reuben, I had a club sandwich and blinzes. The meat is very tender, the sandwich size is generous, but not ridiculous, and the prices are very reasonable. Just don't eat the pickles. They are way too salty. And I like just about all pickles.

Two other reasonable places we found - John's Pizza, and Vincent's BBQ. Both are in the TS area. Vincent's BBQ platters are huge. I think 2 people could easily share.

We ate at John's Pizza and did NOT like it all.

I had a meatball sub at John's and I thought it was quite tasty. Everyone else there was ordering pizza. They had 4 ovens that we could see. I grew up loving NY pizza, but we had pizza twice while in NYC and we were disappointed both times. I guess I like Long Island NY pizza.

Is is the breakfast free for any HGVC owner or just for West 57 owners specifically?

Do they differentiate fees for non W 57 Owners as opposed to just HGVC Club owners?
