  • Review: Vacation Village at Parkway

Following is an overview of the review that was added:

The resort as a whole is great. Unfortunately the previous occupant left fleas for us.

Could this have been bed bugs instead?

Was she the only one who was bit?

Sorry to hear that her vacation was ruined.

If it was really flea bites from a previous occupant who broke the rules, it sounds like the resort went above and beyond what might be expected.

When my aunt got food poisoning at the Royal Caribbean (hospitalization confirmed, and she hadn't eaten anywhere else), the resort denied any responsibility whatsoever.

The doctor declared them flea bites. I thought they were bed bugs too. The resort was really great about it. We had a two bedroom unit. She and my nephew (16 mo) were bitter but my mother got the worse end of it. The bites covered her arms, legs, and neck. My nephew was in a portable crib and got bitten on his arms and face. He spent most of his time on my side of the unit. The vacation was great but it didn't end so well for my mom. We very much appreciate how the resort handled it. They stepped up and took on the responsibility of making it right.

We stayed here in May 2008 and enjoyed our stay. We had no fleas or bedbugs, but there were snakes around the resort. One was on the poorly lit path to the parking lot, and I almost stepped on it. It was fine seeing them in the wetlands around the resort, but it was unnerving almost stepping on one.

That's Florida for you. All that swamp land is their home so gotta expect a few critters making their way into the resorts at time.

Most Florida snakes are just peaceable critters going about their business and aren't poisonous. But you should keep a look out (or if you're my night-blind mom, insist on an escort after dark!), since there are a lot of them, and even a non-poisonous snake may bite if you step on it! But snakes you can see aren't much of a threat - just give them their space.

The lush landscaping is your biggest risk - every time I see people cutting through or playing in the bushes, I remember that a little boy was bitten by a water moccasin at Disney's Carribean Beach Resort. According to his mom, he spent three days in intensive care and received 12 vials of anitvenin before they were done. And of course there was a lot of pain and mental anguish. But he didn't lose any fingers and was smiling again within a few days (although I believe I heard he was on pain-killers for a fair while). He knew he was supposed to stay on the sidewalk, but reached into the bushes to retrieve a dropped toy.
