I agree. The unit is easily over 1100 square feet. However the dining room is outside on the lanai so that may be factored into the square footage.

Is there a good beach at this resort or at least nearby? We are real beach bums and tend to spend a lot of the day lounging on the beach. Thanks

From what I saw, most of the shoreline is very rocky, with only seeing a few small areas to lay out.

A pleasant drive to Waikoloa was where we ended up on the beach. The area was very nice, with the HGVC complexes and shopping nearby.

The better beaches start about 15 to 20 minutes away, near the airport. Take a look at Big Island Revealed under beaches. You could drive to a different beach every day. But the restaurants, shopping, etc.. are more abundant/interesting and less 'resorty' (though a bit honky tonk) in this area.

I agree the better beaches are north, but there is a wonderful beach for snorkling nearby. Also, and this is my "Mom" warning I wouldn't suggest spending too much time out in the sun and at the beach. I've seen too many people with very nasty sunburns. The sun there is intense.

Sorry, Luanne, I know you are a bit fair-skinned, but I am still sporting the fabulous tan I got there, and I've been back for almost a month

I still have the tan I got while we were there as well. I'm just saying you don't need to spend all day at the beach, and if you're not used to the sun you want to be careful in Hawaii. I saw too many really red backs, knees and feet (not my own) while we were there.

thanks for the caution Luanne, but I have found that if you protect those vulnerable parts (ears, nose, forehead), and use a good sunscreen, staying on the beach in the sunniest of climates is certainly doeable. The Big Island sounds terrific and I think it is going to be one of our first stops with our timeshare.

                      thanks again

We stayed at Wyndham Kona Hawaiian Resort Sept. 1-8th in a 2br, 4B, i think. We also heard the occupants upstairs, but enjoyed a private lanai with beautiful plants and lots of birds to watch. We ate breakfast outdoors (only real dining area) and I spent a few late afternoons reading out there. This resort has an authentic Hawaiian feel. We had been at Kona Coast II the week prior and took a drive throught the resort before we checked-in. Being seniors, we asked for a unit near a pool (there's 2 pool areas), near parking, and in a flatter section. This resort is on a slope, and it could be a strenuous hike to get around for visitors with a heart condition or handicap.
