  • Review: Celebrity Resorts Brigantine Beach

Following is an overview of the review that was added:

A resort with an outstanding beachfront location that unfortunately has some very major issues.

    Please see the review here!

Please use this thread to discuss the review.

Wow. Okay, sounds pretty horrible. But how about the beach? It sounds very nice compared to a lot of the beaches on the NJ shore. We go to Point Pleasant sometimes and I think the sand is pretty nice there but the water is so rough I can't take my eyes off the kids. Did Brigantine's beach seem gentle and safe for kids and wimpy adults?

It is not completely DREADFUL. The units are clean but owners were telling me that in 2005 BOTH elevators were broken!

The surf is very mild compared to Point Pleasant ( which we also go to for a day trip sometimes ). Point Pleasant has rough surf and that drop-off about 4 feet from the beach is enough to get a parent frantic. Brigantine you can walk out yards and still be thigh high in little 2.5 foot waves.

The lifeguards are very vigilant. We were there for the tailend of Beryl and there was a riptide for 2 days. 3 lifeguards, 1 out on a surfboard. Not that I ever took my eyes off the 12yo when he was in the surf with all those new buddies.

Thanks! Even though I've lived in NJ since I was 13, I've never broken the code of the Jersey shore. Brigantine sounds like it's just our speed! Although kiddie pools are really my speed...heated kiddie pools...hot tubs are nice too....

I got pulled in from standing with my toesies in the water in Point Pleasant, and I can't swim, so anytime my head gets wet I think I'm going to die.

I would be more inclined to recommend La Sammana ( very chi-chi ) or Brigantine Beach Club ( sparten, clean, large units ) neither are on the beach but they are close. Some Brigantine units do have a beach view. Even number upper units at La Sammana do too.

          Both trade through RCI.

Kay and I took a look at a few units the other day while we were at La Sammana up the street (thanks to Lawren's reco and sighting).

The place definitely seems to have some issues in terms of public areas (indoor pool area in dire need of refurb and downstairs gameroom shut down due to leaks).

They are in the process of replacing the appliances in the units, but they will remain "dorm sized." Decor is fine as long as you don't mind teal/aqua blue on the walls. Not lush, but fine. Views are, as Lawren mentioned, incredible and the location simply cannot be beat - on the higher floors there are beach views even from the rear units. Too bad there are no balconies in the main building.

There are two buildings -- the main building, with smaller units and better views, and the "Villas" next door - the Villas units are considerably larger, some (most?) with balconies, but won't have much in the way of view (except perhaps on the uptown facing side).

There are two different sized studios - large and small. We saw a large and it looked fine. I'm guessing the smaller one lacks a pullout for 3rd and 4th people, but I wouldn't put four people in the studios at any rate.

Both elevators seemed to be working. We were told they were planning to redo the lobby shortly -- seems a shame to me since it currently maintains some period charm.
