  • Review: Hanalei Bay Resort - A Quintus Resort

Following is an overview of the review that was added:

The resort ground are beautifully maintained, and the resort sits up on a hill overlooking Hanalei Bay and Bali Hai. The resort is next to Starwood's Princeville Resort hotel. There is a walkway from the resort to the beach in front of the hotel.

    Nice place!

We visited Kauai for the first 2 weeks of June '08, staying at the Point at Poipu and Pahio Bali Hai. We went to the Happy Talk Lounge for dinner several nights and met a wonderful Medicino, Calif couple who own 6 weeks here. They rarely exchange their weeks, they said, but they do try to reserve early and what wonderful rooms they got! They showed us their 1 bedroom unit, which is fairly close to the beautiful pool near the lounge. The unit showed a little "dating" per my DW, but the view of Bali Hai coast was a million dollar view(oh, and by the way the units here sell for $1,095,000 for a bottom floor 2 bedroom unit). We met up with the couple again and they had transferred to their 2 bedroom unit, which was closer to the bay, and again a magnificent view. The master had a king size bed and the second had 2 queen(full?) sized beds. It actually has an unused loft area above the kitchen that is kind of wasted space and no means to get up there. The hike to get back to the Lounge is a bit steep, but we did it. They had some men shuttling people to the units with golf carts. The Bali Hai Restaurant has gone out, pending opening of another restaurant. It's a stones throw from the Happy Talk, infact some of the dinner groups opted to have their dinner served over there as some of the live music can get a bit loud. The happy Talk has dinners in the $10-12 range for pork sandwiches and fish tacos, which I enjoyed and were ample. Friday nights they have free pupu's while they last from 4-6pm and discounted drinks during these hours. The DW liked the Lava Flow drinks. If I had to do it over again, I would definately not have bought at the Bali Hai, but would have bought at the Hanalei Bay Resort instead and joined II instead of RCI. It was amazing but the gas for the car was cheaper on the island versus back home near Sacramento! We really enjoy the Hanalei Bay area and the nightly sunsets. Gary

We exchanged into Hanalei Bay many years ago and I remember the grounds were beautiful along with the pool setting. Having breakfast/dinner and seeing the sunrise/sunset in the distance was wonderful. Also, being in the back door of the Princeville hotel was a plus. I understand that they (Princeville Hotel) are now under new ownership but I can't remember who.

        Princeville Hotel new owner

        Hi,
We were advised by the woman we met that St. Regis was the new owner and it sounded like there was going to be significant renovations instore. She attended the actual owners meeting for those that own outright. She was impressed with their tight reigns for keeping the Hanalei Bay Resort up to par.gary

St. Regis does not own Hanalei Bay Resort. Starwood owns The Princeville Hotel next door. The hotel is being renovated and will be rebranded a St. Regis. I was just elected to the Vacation Owners board at Hanalei Bay Resort last month. There are two different HOAs. One maintains all of the exteriors and common areas, and the other (VOA) maintains the timeshare units.
