Thank goodness you gave it a thumbs up.....I can officially look forward to my week in June I keep seeing those WM Bulk bankings and I'd jump to South Shore except this is a bonus week from SFX. Tempting though.

Are you familiar with the area? The Worldmark South Shore is in Zephyr Cove, which is on the southern Nevada side, but not 'in the action.' You have a good shot at nice views from up on the Kingsbury Grade many units, probably not so much at Worldmark since the units sound like they are more 'in the woods' at lake level. And the road up to Ridge Tahoe is pretty much in between the casinos and Zephyr Cove, it's not like it's really out of the way or anything, especially in summer. A walk to the lake might be nice at Worldmark, but wouldn't make much difference unless they have a private beach. Word is that public beaches are really mobbed in summer. I learned that the Ridge Tahoe runs a shuttle (twice in am, twice in pm) to a private beach on the lake, should be a nice perk, and maybe you can even park there, not sure.

No-I haven't been there in about 15 years and then it was for a wedding. I remember where we stayed though-I do not know if it was a T/S back then-but it was Tahoe Beach and Ski Club. You could put quarters in the beds and they would vibrate
I did not know about the shuttle to the lake. I knew they had one for the casinos. Awesome. I just thought it would be nice to be able to walk to the lake-but either which way is fine. I live in the desert-I am just looking forward to seeing green Thanks for the heads up.

Tahoe Beach and Ski Club is on the other side of South Lake Tahoe (more into California). Vibrating beds, wow, that takes me back They have been upgraded quite a bit, then!

Honestly, if the Worldmark units are nice, the Zephyr Cove location would be good, too. But I wouldn't look back with an SFX bonus week booked at the Ridge Tahoe, either. There is also a spa at the Ridge. I didn't try it, but there is a nice in/outdoor pool, with a great view into the hills. Probably some nice views at the other pools, too, though I didn't explore them.

A couple of restaurants worth mentioning:

The Naked Fish: in South Lake Tahoe, really great sushi, we went twice!
Charter House: on the Kingsbury Road, nice views, and very creative seafood/steak menu. We had an excellent meal there, but I would save it for a 'special' night, rather than a quick bite, it is a little spendy.

In our opinion The Ridge Tahoe is one of the best resorts anywhere and very well run and maintained for owners!

We bought the Tower unit about 23 years ago when they were still building it and kept it for five years before leaving timesharing. Even though we didn't own we still returned every year for short vacations.

I retired in 2005 and we decided after all the great hotels we used for vacations that we wanted a timeshare again. We knew we wanted Lake Tahoe South Shore so we looked around at most of the resorts dealing with II only and after few months decided we love the Ridge and bought the Naegle summer resale and have never had regretts.

Because of not trading our week, July 4th week mostly we bought a even year Tower unit in 2007 so now we can exchange or rent on even years and still enjoy our July 4th week.

This timeshare resort has their update set two years in advance for which buildings or what ever to be updated so there is always something going on here and this makes for a great timeshare.

Only people I would say to not stay at the Ridge are the people that want someone to hand carry the suit cases into their rooms and people that want to be in town with all the vistors walking around.

When you stay at the Ridge you can spend all day there just enjoying the club house and pool area and forget being in a crowd until you go down to the casino's.

No. There is another resort in the area that is part of DRI or, a DRI affiliate. There is also what use to be the Embassy resort that is down on the lake that is a DRI resort but, The Ridge is neigther an affiliate or a DRI resort.

I'm glad the Ridge is still in good shape and undergoing regular refurbishments. We've stayed at The Ridge twice and Ridge Crest once. All of our stays were pleasant and we would hesitate to recommend The Ridge to anyone wanting to stay in the Lake Tahoe area and didn't mind being up near the top of one of the mountains surrounding Lake Tahoe.

We have an exchange request in for next July but, this time we decided to try an internal exchange through Marriott and stay at Marriott's Timber Lodge. I'm not sure how we'll feel about being in town vs being up on the mountain. I suspect we'll prefer The Ridge's location but enjoy the more compact Marriott and being able to walk to the stores and restaurants in town.

The Ridge is a great resort for summer. Nice cool evening, tranquil setting and some good views. On our second stay at The Ridge, we were in the Plaza building and our unit faced into the resort, which meant we had a view of the tennis courts below the unit and the parking lot. Still, it was a very nice week and nice unit.

I noticed you mentioned large tubs and seperate showers. I know you were moved to the Cascade building but, the two times we were in the Plaza builiding, it was only a shower/tub combo but, there was a shower head on both ends of the tub. Have they changed that in the Plaza building to a seperate tub and shower?

We also love Ridge Tahoe. So much so that we finally bought it there (Plaza) after renting or exchanging almost every year to go there. On one Labor Day weekend, we saw a baby bear with its mummy bear outside which was quite a scene...

I was just told that the stagecoach lift is no longer in operation during ski season and shuttle bus will take the skiers down to the base. That's a disappointment I guess. Does anyone know the frequency and the cost of the shuttle? Could we still ski back to the resort at the end of the day? Any info will be greatly appreciated...

I think it would make a fabulous summer destination, it is really beautiful up there. Hopefully someone else will be able to answer your question about the shuttle, and whether you can still ski back to the resort (I can't imagine they've closed the trail...).

Lisa, can you answer Doug's question about the tub/showers at the Plaza? I was there pre-refurb and didn't stay inside the Plaza unit long enough to notice before we moved.

We were in the Plaza a long time ago and we have not stayed in our unit yet... I think it's a bath/shower thing, not a stand-alone shower but not 100% sure...
I'll check it out next month...

Lisa I may have mislead you in my e-mail. We are not skiers and do not go up during winter months so I know nothing of the lifts.

What I was talking about was the Gondola is history since back around Nov and now skiers need to use the shuttle that runs every twenty minutes.

Base of the Gondola sets on the Heavenly land and the resort wants to build condo's on that land.

The owners letter stated the Ridge could have kept the Gondola for another few months but to have it fixed would have cost owners thousands of dollars. Ridge didn't feel it was fair to owners for this expense for such a short time.
