  • Review: Poipu Point Vacation Resort By Sunterra

Following is an overview of the review that was added:

The resort is on a cliff overlooking the ocean with plenty of sea turtles to see. It is situated in a residential area and close to the Kauai Hyatt. Its abit of a walk to a beach for those who want to swim in something other than a pool.

    I agree

We had a week starting on 5/31/08. We Were in Building #2 and also on the bottom level. The people above us loved to stomp their feet and drag chairs on the tile floor inside or the deck outside(2X at 6am and 1X at 6:30am). I advised the front desk and they refused to do anything unless I called at the time of the noise. While this building is next to the lobby, if we sat on the deck at the right angle you could see a sliver of the ocean. The pool, while quite large has depths ranging from 1" to 4' with the average at about 3.5', so you feel like you're in a kiddie pool. The adult hot tub is pretty large and quiet. I guess the pool is suppose to be natural looking, but the light brown color made it appear to be a little grungy. The Diamond rep convinced us to make an appointment to attend a presentation even though my wife said she didn't want to. To be courteous and not tie up their slots, I cancelled about 45 minutes later, to which the rep(John) said "That's ok, I'll get paid anyway" in a rather smart a@* tone. The room appeared to be newly painted, but the 2 living room chairs looked about 10 years old, the couch kinda getting saggy and one dresser had harward missing from one of the drawers. A picture frame in the second bath appeared to have been dropped and cracked in the bottom corner and was remounted after the painting. I heard that a lot of work is being done, including all new lounger chairs by the pool. The shore at the resort is all lava rock, but there is a trail to the Hyatt's sandy beach. I walked around the Hyatt and it is pretty ritzy and saw a colorful parrot being shown the the various children to have their pictures taken with. The Hyatt has numerous pools and looked very nice, as it should for being so pricey. I would strongly suggest getting a top floor unit if you can. I would have liked to see an adult area of the pool to avoid some of the splashing and rough housing. There is a bar by the pool that makes drinks, shakes, lunch items for the kids and wings in the late afternoon. The orientation included a really nice breakfast. Not sure if you could pay for additional breakfasts, they were all you could eat. We moved on to the Princeville side of the island for 9 more nights and really prefer P'Ville's area more and I saw Pierce Broslin walking on the beach, too. Aloha, Gary
