While we liked this resort, there is a reason they call it (Waikoloa) "Wai-Ka-Blow-A". The wind was constant. Do your activities (golf, snorkeling, etc..) in the morning and baton down the hatches in the PM. We prefer being closer to Kailua-Kona about a 30 minute drive south. Kitchens were small, but overall very nice units. We had a 2 bedroom and wished the 2nd bedroom had a queen instead of twins.

We just got back. We had a unit in building 8 - the upper units in buildings five thorugh eight - assuming they're all the same, are really nice. Although it's double beds in the second bedroom, there is a true ensuite, no mad dash for the bathroom in the "common area" of the unit in the morning or middle of the night. Our bathroom was identical to the master. Very large unit, vaulted ceilings and right next to one of the pools.

We had not asked for a specific room number, but simply called ahead and asked for "Not a first floor unit and not a lanai view of the parking lot, please, if that's possible." We were very happy with our unit.

This is the sunniest part of the big island. We stayed here in 2004, and the weather was much better in Waikoloa than in Kona. This was my first time to the big island, so I don't know if that's usually the case. Kona was really muggy, and Waikoloa was cool and sunny (and yes, very breezy!).

Just don't take a 1 bedroom unless you don't mind facing the parking lot. We were on the ground floor, lanai steps from the parking lot. The resort wouldn't move us, said that all the 1 bedrooms were like that.

Small ants appear to be the norm in tropical climes. Just keep your food sealed and off the counters, and they usually go away,
