For our vacation I would rate is a 8.5 to a 9. When the Hotel is open it may be a 9.5 to a 10.

Unfortunate that I so rarely see this one available on-line. I haven't ever stayed anywhere that rates higher than an 8.5. I think I need to stay here and it is an area that I tend to frequent too.

    Glad you loved it.

Thanks for the great updated review. We will be there in April. Got thru II with DRI (Sunterra) points. Can a second floor unit be requested? If so, when should I call?

L'Auberge and RCI both called about the Hotel being closed about a month before the check in date. With the Hotel open, it could be a very special place to stay.

Minnie - just curious - what did you use to trade in and how far ahead did you do the trade????

It can not hurt to call. I'm sure some people may not want the 2nd floor because of the stairs.

Because of Tennis and the Beach.

I would rate any place that has good tennis courts and a nice beach within a block at least a 8. And when the resort has a good location (Del Mar) and nice units with a Ocean View it is not hard to get to 8.5 or 9.

PS. I'm glad the Giants won the Super Bowl. But it also made it harder to take, losing to the Giants in the NFC Championship game

I saw it online on II November 2007. Booked it right away using 5500 Suntera/Diamond points. I couldn't believe I got it.

Your II confirmation will indicate the unit you got. As there are only 12 units at VLA you are certain to get the unit that is indicated on the confirmation. I am an owner at VLA and we absolutely love it!

I know that I will be assigned a unit. My question was, will the TS honor requests. We have had success with other resorts doing so in the past.

Because VLA is so small (only 12 units) and since owners own their actual unit for their specified week (its not a floating system) and the 12 units are virtually always full - it is very unlikely they will give you a unit other than the one on your confirmation. However, it never hurts to ask.

We've been assigned Unit 607. Can you tell me something about it's location?

                            The trains....

The train thing can be tough. The tracks run very close to the beach from at least Oceanside to Carlsbad to Del Mar. Pretty much if you can easily walk to the ocean, you likely will have train noise. Makes for a lovely ride on the Coaster train along the coast though...

Unit 607 is a corner unit on the lower level of the building that is closer to the ocean. It should have a very nice ocean (and sunset) view and is close enough that you can hear the surf when your windows are open. The lower level units in the other building (the building further from the ocean) don't have ocean views as their view of the ocean is obstructed by the building that's closer to the ocean. Enjoy!
