Jim, great report. The one thing I always wonder about in Sanibel is, what is there to do?

          what to do in Sanibel
beaches, shelling, fishing, biking (miles of bike trails), walking, dining out, a playhouse theatre, boat trips to islands, Ding Darling Nature Preserve, lots of other conservation areas, Shell Museum, Animal Rehabilitation Center and golf courses. Also shopping on island and off.

I have never in my life collected so many beautiful sea shells they are just all over. My wife has them in a huge jar on display in our kitchen. The restaurants are great and the ride over to Captiva to see a great sunset is so picturesque. Biking , Swimming and relaxation are a few things that comes to mind right away.

Folks just kick back and relax at the resort pool/shuffleboard/tennis courts, walk on the beach, ride bicycles, play golf.

Me and my buddy played golfed with Conch Man and Rapmarks while our wives shopped, the new thing being Goodwill stores, the SW FL ones being very good.

We dined mostly off-island, after golf and shopping.

              A week goes pretty quickly.

                  Big wish.

As most here know, we have been going to SW FL Weeks 1 and 2 since just before dirt.

I have been searching SW FL for January almost daily since RCI.com began, 1997, and I recorded the results from March, 2002, until just recently. I stopped because the dye is cast and there is need to continue to record the same (lack of) results.

I might add that I have found zero trace of wrongdoing by the exchange company.

In all that time this is our first Sanibel exchange.

Oops, I found a chink in their armor.

Sorting through the mail that piled up while we were in Florida I found the welcome and check-in procedure from Lighthouse, postmarked 12/30, and arriving here while were already in Florida.

We love everything mentioned "to do on Sanibel". I'm concerned though about July heat and precipitation. I'm confirmed until tonight at PCB Landmark for August 1, 2009. Someone on TUG pointed me over to JLB's review, and my gosh, I am very, very torn now.

I don't have the luxury of going anytime other than summer right now. If the only time you could go were summer months, would you do it? Anybody? Thanks!

JLB-agree on the shells. I have always done beach vacations and have never seen shells like this before. There are so many if you stay on the beach facing the water you can hear them clink together as the tides roll in. We stayed on Captiva (pre hurricane at SS Plantation Beach resort) and did not want to leave the island at all. Rare for me.

We did a boat tour in Captiva and DH golfed once at Dune. Sanibel had the better bike paths.

For us we did not think Ding Darling or the Animal Rehab was anything great but it was something different to do and low cost. There is a tram $$ in Ding Darling and there are some walkways into the preserve. It was about $5 to ride through in our own car and stop when we wanted. It's not a massive place to it's easy to fit into the day.

We did Marco in July a couple of years back and we had a great time. Plan on a 30 minute storm in the afternoon.

                              GO!
