Casa Velas
Puerto Vallarta
Our last vacation before everything changed. We thankfully spent it at Casa Velas, my favorite adults only, boutique resort.
Once you enter thru the scrolled iron gates and go up the long driveway and are greeted by the bellmen and concierges and invited into the serene A/C lobby with couches, candles, water ponds/ pools on the ground, all stress leaves and for us we are in our tranquil place.
Check in is the easiest and most welcoming around in PV. You are given wonderfully scented cloths to refresh along with a drink of your choice or a lovely hibiscus drink while you relax on comfy couches. Kelly from the front desk, came over to us, along with my dear friend Luz, to check us in, from our seats. Our beautiful hemp bracelets with silver amulet were applied for our all inclusive plan. Beautiful accessory. The concierges, Rogelio, Luz and Chief concierge Miguel, welcomed us back and made sure of any requests we had, to make our stay more enjoyable. All is good, we are home. Mind you our ride was very short as previously we were at another of our favorite resorts Velas Vallarta. After a quick check in we went straight to the pool and our car was parked by valet service and unloaded and luggage put in our room for whenever we were ready. We throughout our stay were able to give a hug and say hello to Geraldine, the manager, a lovely welcoming woman. Fredy waited on us by the pool and as usual he is his amiable self.
The grounds about the resort are stunning, tranquil, an oasis. The pool is large, differing in depths and just stunning. The resort is on par with a small rambling village off a gold course. Beautiful landscaping, flowers, an herb and vegetable garden, foliage, brick walkways, just utter beauty, in this boutique 80 room adults only hotel/resort. The lobby has an inside A/C area with a TV, and an outside area overlooking Koi ponds under the stars, both with the infamous "Benny" as bartender or one of the other great bartenders. Nightly in early evening they have live music and adult entertainment, like cocktail making demonstrations, tequila tastings, casino night, and such or just socialization or sports on TV. Live music is frequently found in Emiliano restaurant while dining by piano, Sax Player or Mariachis.
You can dine at Emiliano restaurant which is tiered in 3 levels, incredible atmosphere and architecture. Also has indoor A/C and or very romantic candlelit outdoor dining by Koi ponds and facing pool. They also have dining in the daytime by the pool, 24/7 room service and the restaurant at the beach club just minutes away by private A/C shuttle or you also have access to the sister resort Velas Vallarta and everything it has to offer.
We stayed in a different style suite this time which was lovely, though The Wellness Suites are my favorite due to larger size and 2 bathrooms and separate area for a couple that has differing sleep patterns. This style room likely is my second favorite, a Grand Class Plus Suite without the Jacuzzi, as requested as we rarely use the Jacuzzi , and slightly larger room without jacuzzi.
It had a King bed, 2 side tables. The TV on a console with swivel top separating the bedroom from living room/kitchen area so you could watch TV from both sides. Nice sliders leading to two terraces one with a table and chairs and a private yard with plunge pool. The closet was huge with lots of hanging and draw space, a large safe, umbrellas in room, Beach bag to use, along with robe and slippers. The bathroom also was very large with huge shower, dual control head, hand held or rain shower. Large counter space with sink and plenty of space to move about. So thus the room was very good.
Daily excellent housekeeping and turn down service at night. A coffeemaker with pods, a mini refrigerator with sodas, water, beer, juices and such, restocked daily. A snack basket with cookies, chips and other snacks also restocked daily and 24 hour room service, you could ask for nothing more.
The Beach club is amazing, private with pool, bathroom areas, shower, restaurant and service as well as loungers on beach. The restaurant is Asian inspired and quite yummy. We enjoyed Kao Pad Sapport with julienne veggies rice, cashew curry, raisins and pineapple and shrimp over a pineapple round. Spring rolls stuffed with crab, baby calamari with pickle tartar sauce, Hamburger with caramelized onions and tender bacon and fries. Ramon and Daniel were our waiters and it is just an amazing beach area. We like to walk to the beach club or over to sister Resort Velas Vallarta, ( we had already spent the previous week there so we did not venture back), when we want beach, but we are very content to just be on site amongst the tranquil little village as I call it.
The service throughout the resort is very attentive and friendly but not obtrusive, attention to detail is of utmost importance.
We dined every evening at Emiliano Restaurant and had such things as Vallarta Cervices, Peach salad with goat cheese, beets and pistachio, Tomato salad with roasted avocado, tomatillo juice, watercress and scallop slices, Roasted veggies with parmesan slices, olive oil and balsamic vinegar, Leek Cream soup with champagne, brie cheese and green oil, Miso soup with shitake mushrooms, Beef meatball with bell pepper, Creamy duck confit wontons with mango chutney & orange., Kani Knai salad Jicama cucumber & carrots with a sweet soy sauce
Grilled Octopus, Rack of Lamb, Duck Magret, Braised Short Rib, Burgandy Style snails with toasted peanut bread, Beef Bourguinon, Fine Herb Salmon
Red Berry Cheescake, Citrus Creme Crumble Pie with sherbet, Ice cream or sorbet of many flavors, Ginger Crème Brule, Apple tart Tatin with Pecan ice cream ( this is an apple dessert shaped like a rose, great presentation). Each night they have regular menu and a theme inspired night like French, Italian, Asian etc. The waiters were all good under the direction of Captain Jose. There were quite a few new waiters to us, but Bernadino and Francisco were still there and as usual provided great service.
By the pool we had such great treats as Guacamole with Mexican salsa, Shrimp Burrito, Onion rings, Chicken salad sandwich with cranberries, walnuts, and lettuce on rye bread, fish tacos, and Apple salad.
Lots of different drinks all with top shelf alcohol.
I had been in touch with the chief concierge prior to arrival via email, Miguel and others and response time was very rapid and everything I requested in room and minibar was exactly as I liked.
We totally enjoyed our stay and had hoped to return very soon.
Shortly after returning home the world changed with the Corona Virus sigh and we still hope we can get back to Casa Velas quickly when they reopen. This would be a great place for social distancing being a small resort on sprawling grounds. Large restaurant, 24 hours room service, and no children so it is on top of our list for when we can resume vacations. As always the memories of our vacations here have been amazing and I am positive they will be once again.
