I stayed at this resort on a timeshare exchange thru RCI. If you are arriving via RCI they do provide Free transport from airport. I was driving and they have free secure parking which was nice.
The property is quite large and sprawling so you may have to walk quite a distance from entrance or lobby which is as basic as it gets, to go to your room. Check in was a totally disorganized issue. After much time, and confusion I was assigned room 6408, which apparently is not a desired building as many guests were requesting to be moved or not put into it. I knew nothing so okay it is what it is. The usual timeshare spiel person catches you to give you information but no major pressure. You do have to wear wrist bands to be on property.
My room was a long walk to the building 6 and on the fourth floor. There are no elevators. Bell men were great, there is no valet parking. The walk to your room and then up the stairs is uncovered so in sun or rain could be a problem for many. The room was dated but very spacious. Tons of closet space, enough that you actually could live in the unit. I had two full beds in one room and 2 bathrooms one in the bedroom and one off the kitchen. This was a one bedroom unit. The bathrooms were basic, no frills but served the purpose. The lighting in bathrooms and bedroom quite dim. Shampoo, soap, towels and lotion supplied. There was a decent kitchen with a blender, toaster, microwave, oven with a stove, counter for seating and also a table for 4 as a dining room. They supplied purified water in garafons ( 5 gallon water jugs). The living room, all open spaced, 2 couches. The hardest couches you can ever imagine. I thought I might have broken my coccyx more than once when sitting down. There was a TV in both the bedroom and living room. A very large terrace off the living room with 2 loungers and a table and even a nice view of the ocean and one of the pools, but sadly due to no umbrella you could not use it as it was sunny all day. There is a safe in the room, and also free wifi, but the room tax is additional and to be paid when checking in.
I had lunch at Cafe Chapultepec, the onsite restaurant while waiting for my room to be ready. I had a BLT, nicely made in a nice setting and a soda for 212 pesos with tip. Nice outdoor dining spot right on site.
The beach varies on this resort due to the long length of property, lot of rocks. Few loungers and palapas. There are 6 or 7 pools and not one has umbrellas for shade. This is a huge factor for my comfort as I prefer shade to total sun and that was almost impossible. They do have waiters by the pools providing food & drink service. Food was good and drinks as well, service spotty.
Days were spent mostly by pool seeking shade by moving loungers, even though that was against the rules. I went out for dinner nightly in town and about and used Uber just about every time. Met up with different friends who live in PV. Happy with that. I went to places such as Pancho Villa, Oasis de Holi, Fei Long, The Butcher and Chef, DZ's Rte 66 and the marina market, Tunnel Road BBQ, all of which I wrote reviews on. I also had a lovely massage at Athena Spa, very reasonably priced and a good massage.
When you return from a night out it is a long, not very well lit walk to your room and then up those 4 flights of stairs. Obviously not for the handicapped or anyone with any walking disability.
This resort obviously at one time was amazing, I imagine. Lots of grounds, pools and buildings. Located almost right across from Caracol Plaza, in hotel zone.
Now, would I return? Maybe if no better options appeared thru RCI, but not in rainy season as I can see those stairs and long walk to room being treacherous. On weekends the building they put RCI members in, building 6, is next to a nightclub so thus you can hear the music into the wee hours. I muffled it by closing the bathroom doors. I personally was not too bothered by that. The lack of umbrellas and distance to get to room with no elevators might be big downfalls for many including myself. All in all, I had a fine time, but no raves on the resort.
