  • Safe, comfortable, relaxing, Ladies trip

    June 20-25, 2021
    Velas Vallarta
    Puerto Vallarta

We wanted to go on a ladies' trip where we would feel as comfortable and safe as possible from Covid exposure but still have a feeling of normalcy. We found it at Velas Vallarta.
We arrived without an event and not too much traffic from Guadalajara to PV. Valet services were suspended due to Protocol which was fine, so the car was parked. We had to enter the resort by first passing over a foot disinfectant, then temperature taking and gel for hands. Masks were required in public areas except while lounging around the pool or in the pool.
All staff was wearing masks and shields, temps taken randomly while at work, and if any symptoms sent home with pay. Food whether restaurant, by the pool, or in room service, was covered with plastic wrap, all utensils sealed in plastic bags and remotes, pens, etc. in rooms also in bags.
Luggage was sanitized and then put into covered carts. Elevators had markings on floors for distancing as did the front desk.
Check-in was an easy process and all Covid safety measures were explained in full and also given in writing. Once we were assigned our room the bellman immediately took us and our luggage to Room 3819. ( Beat that, top floor, close to the ocean in a one-bedroom villa plus). The room was sealed by a tape that had to be broken to enter as it had been 100% sanitized before our arrival.

We had a great view and a spacious room. It has a kitchen, full-size refrigerator, all the appliances needed, blender, coffee maker, & toaster. Dining room with table for 4. The table was even set and ready for dining. The living room was off of that, open layout. It had the L-shaped concrete sofas which I actually find very comfortable and give extra sleeping room for kiddies or naps if needed. We did have a roll-away bed, not a cot, brought in as more comfortable for an adult to sleep on.

The balcony ran the length of the unit, had a table, chairs, and lots of space and we had a lot of neighboring birds and even ducks visit us up there.
The bedroom had a very comfortable king bed and a TV along with another TV in the Living room. Plenty of closet space, drawer space, and a safe in the room as well. The safe is a bit on the small side so think carefully about laptop sizes.
The bathroom has a tub with shower and plush towels, as many as needed, even facecloths, along with L'Occitane amenities like shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, soap, shower caps, razors, toothpaste, toothbrushes, makeup remover pads, q-tips, and nail files along with shoe buffers. A lighted make-up mirror, as a nice plus. An iron and ironing board are in the closet in the bedroom along with extra blankets and pillows.
Robes are provided for use at the resort and they also have slippers. Wifi is included in the room price and works throughout the resort as many devices as you wish. Our room was spotlessly clean and daily maid service was provided along with nightly turndown service if you so desired.
The refrigerator is restocked with water, beer, soda, & milk daily. There is a snack basket on the kitchen counter and it too is restocked daily and includes things such as coffee maker packets, sugar, tea, chips, Doritos, cookies, nuts, oatmeal packets, and cereals.

After checking out our room we went down to La Ribera restaurant the beachside restaurant and shared a pizza and a mixed Wok. It was a lot of food but delicious. The ambiance is so relaxing overlooking the ocean. The service was excellent. Menus are either on paper disposable menus or via scan onto your phone.

We then roamed the grounds as they are just so beautiful with landscaping to die for. The tables and loungers by pools were socially distanced and we never had a problem getting what we desired. The pools as usual were just great for swimming, relaxing by, or enjoying drinks and eats. We spent a portion of every day by the pools. Edwin was our poolside waiter every day and he was more than amazing, remembering our drink likes, welcoming us every day, and being attentive and friendly.

The first night we unpacked and though there was a Mexican Fiesta in the ballroom we chose not to attend though I saw pictures and it was well run and socially distanced. We instead, had Make your Own Tacos off the room service menu ( which is a tradition I have). Along with that a pitcher of margaritas and a bottle of wine for the wine drinker. It was delicious and so much food. You could want for nothing more. It makes for a really nice first-night welcome to Mexico feel.

Being a ladies' trip, we came to refresh, replenish and relax only. We stayed at the resort the whole time other than the beach. We drank, ate, talked, laughed, and even cried. It was a total blast and exactly what we both needed. We could not have chosen a better experience. This was my friend's first visit to Velas Vallarta and she liked it a lot.

We had breakfasts in our room by room service or brunch/late lunch by the pool. We enjoyed our dinners at Andrea, dining outside. Again great Covid protocol. Excellent service by all the waiters and the restaurant manager Omar keeps things in good order.
Waiters always had masks and shields on and guests were required to wear masks entering the restaurant and gel hands and disinfect shoes. Every night is a different themed menu, so there is plenty of variety. We had so many amazing meals it is hard to list them all but some of our foods were Tomato Trilogy with organic olives and goat cheese. Cukes and grilled watermelon ( this was almost too pretty to eat). Mussel casserole in sweet white wine, Coq au Vin infused in French wine. Spring rolls, Tempura cauliflower over tepanyaki veggies, salmon with mashed potatoes and veggies, Braised asparagus with olives and pecans, and calamari fritti with Pomodoro and Cheese Ravioli in creamy garlic and crunchy onion sauce. Lemon Chicken Breast and Black Forest Cake, sadly that was so delicious we may have had it every night even though we swore off dessert. They had Italian, Asian, Tuscan, and Mexican Gourmet nights. On Mexican Gourmet night we ate such things as Shrimp Tamale and salad, Chicken Flautas guajillo infused chili, Tirados de chile, Confit Veal Shank, and stuffed Chicken Breast.

Every single thing we had was delicious, prepared, and presented beautifully and safely. The service was attentive but not obtrusive and we had beautiful grounds to look over along with a few peacocks who preened for us. I think my friend overcame her fear of Peacocks after this trip. Yay!

Being the start of rainy & hurricane season we did experience some overcast mornings, some rain but it never interfered with our great time. We could have walked to the marina in a mere 15 minutes or taken a taxi to town or even drove there but we just enjoyed the resort and all it offered we felt fine staying put. Never felt we missed anything, but we both have been to PV many times.

Everyone at the resort is friendly, willing to help, and wants to see the guests enjoy their time. A true benefit to visiting a Mexican-owned small company, family-run.
There is no other AI for a family in Puerto Vallarta that compares to the food and service at Velas Vallarta, I have searched. I return to Velas Vallarta a lot as it is truly the best family-oriented resort in all ways. Everyone I bring there loves it and returns on their own. Try it once and you will want to return.

Thought I'd replied, but don't see it. Thanks for the great review. Glad you can get out and travel. How is Covid in Mexico?
