Have you ever offered your timeshare to someone?
I've only used mine 3 times, got it around 8 years ago. It's an every other year thing, once I used the exchange to use it myself (1 bedroom condo) . The other time I vacationed with my sister and her family in Orlando (2 bedroom condo) , and the other time I let my sister and her family use it (2 bedroom condo) and I paid for the transfer fee. This 4th time I have not used it yet, but I have a week that I can use in 2012 with the exchange. I'm single and live right near the beach in Florida so I don't need to vacation anywhere.
I asked her is she wanted it, I told her she would just have to pay the maintenance which was around $500 back then. She wasn't interested. The funny thing is that she will pay $200 a night for a 2 bed motel room for 4 people, when she can instead have at minimum a really nice one bedroom condo with an extra sofa bed in the living room.
They are great if you use them, but if you don't need them they become a lousy expense.
