  • Can RCI points TS be sold while still holding a reservation in RCI?

Some of you may recall my recent Carlsbad Seapointe purchase, which turned out to be converted to RCI points, which took me a while to understand fully. I wanted to go ahead and experience RCI points before I switched the TS back to RCI weeks. I've been looking on RCI points just about daily. I booked a week for October via RCI points to another one of my TS.

I am now 100% sure that I only want a week TS and not RCI points. I also have decided that I want a 2 bedroom at Seapointe (this one is a one bedroom). I think I should sell/giveaway the current Seapointe/RCI points intact. The new owner can decide if they want to keep it in points or turn it back into a week.

At what point can I transfer this? When I transfer it, I'll no longer have a RCI points TS. Is that going to mess up the exchange in October that I've already booked? Do I need to wait until after I use the exchanged week?

As long as you maintain your RCI Points account and indicate that 2012 reservation is not being transferred and no 2012 points are being transferred you are fine. Although if you have leftover points you can transfer them to the buyer after his/her RCI points account is set up. One of the options is to transfer your point account to the buyer. You can't do this because you can't cancel your account until after you complete your October exchange.

        Presley,
Have you thought about converting this to HGVC?
If you like to do bonus time types of last minute trips, HGVC has a great Open Season program where you just rent from the club when you want to get away. So far since I've owned HGVC I've done 5 open season ressies and only two official club reservations. This is the greatest benefit of HGVC IMO. I don't even own alot of points and I ended up almost having to save some points but I got creative and booked an RCI unit instead. But that's a whole other story. Anyway, think about it. You could get 2 bedrooms thru the club on Open season fairly easily. I think it's about $120 a night.

Oh and HGVC points see all the RCI points ressies thru the HGVC/RCI portal so you'd have another access to points and weeks stuff. It also is a pretty good deal for studios and 1 bedrooms thru the portal like for expensive stuff like Manhattan Club and Disney.

I will look into that, Chris. I think I read something a few months back that GPR wasn't allowing resales to convert anymore.
