I am speechless about all I read about Westgate but it has to be true because it has been mentioned so many times and for many years.

i am happy for you to be free of this burden finally.

I'm surprised that they haven't threatened most of the wastegate haters here-tho they did go after one poster.

I have to run to work - but I will be posting later for anyone who wants the specifics.

OH YEA - and....looks like the MF went up by a couple hundred as well!!!! Between that and the exchange fee PLUS the new Holiday Upgrade fee - we are thrilled that someone else can take advantage of it from here on out.

            LOVE YOU GUYS!!!

              Details for those interested:

Posted on Tugg Bargain Basement on 08/21/2012
First official contact from interested party on 08/23/2012
              Official offer 08/24/2012
Sent in completed paperwork to ReadyLegal on 08/27/2012
ReadyLegal sent out drafts on 09/12/2012
Noticed some small changes, notified ReadyLegal who had an updated copy back to us on 09/13/2012.
Mailed back notary signed paperwork and 2 checks. One to ReadyLegal and the other to Westgate (for the transfer fee). 09/14/2012
ReadyLegal received the info and e-filed the deed on 09/17/2012

Westgate officially transferred the name to the new owner on 10/02/2012 @ 12:02PM.

              6 WEEKS!!!!!!

Westgate did not attempt to exercise ROFR - even though I have heard from many that they try this. WG told me it was because we were giving it away for free - but I have heard other people have had different experiences with this.

My transfer fee was also only $100.00. ReadyLegal had it in their docs that the transfer fee was 150.00 - but mine was only 100.00. We have had ours for a while though.

Hope this helps someone else out there.

HA!!! Honestly, they were blowing up our phone anyway, now we just don't have to deal with it AND pay the MF every year for the rest of eternity. YIPEEEEEE!!!

@Lawren2 Thanks!! I cannot thank everyone enough.

@iconnections Yea. We were lucky that we did not run in too many issues. We finally had enough of the pushy salesteam, the increasing MF's, decreasing benefits and what appeared to be a drop in clientele, and increase in general fees. It was always something. I know that a lot of TS owners see this, but when we found we were staying in other TS in Orlando for less than our MF's - we figured we would get out while we could. We literally went to Orlando 3 times this year - and did not even stay in our unit. That speaks volumes. I will say though - that in the 90's and even early 2000's - we did get a lot of use out of them and still spent less than paying for 2 hotel rooms for a week.

@tonyg and @jlb that is awful.

Congratulations on wastegate freedom. I wonder if the new owner will be coming around in a few years trying to get out of it as well.
It's sad when fees skyrocket and you can't get out. I owned in Orlando (first mistake) and was quite happy to be free of it and take the 3k+ loss. You couldn't give me an Orlando timeshare since then.

I'd have to check to see when we got out from under Mr. Sleaze, but certainly more than ten years ago.

But, the timeshare telemarketing calls still go on, even with our number on the Fed and State No Call Lists.

C'mon, given everything else, all the other stuff they do, why would they be above a minor indiscretion like selling lists?

                      @tonyg

the relief we are currently feeling cannot even be put into words! LOL - i was thinking the same thing. I actually considered selling it to someone staying at the resort - and even posted a "HA HA - well sort of" post on TUG about selling it to people coming out of the sales office / or at the pool for 1/2 of whatever Wastegate was selling. But didn't because I would not want to strap some family or person down with something that did not know they were getting into. Since I sold it on the Bargain Basement on TUG, and the owner actually just bought another Wastegate Unit in another location, I feel my conscience is clear.

I am sure others have this same situation - but when we bought - our MF's were 199 a year!! (at the most 299) Last year they were 1K plus. And i think this year they are close to 1200 - but the WG CSM would not give me the details BECAUSE I AM NO LONGER THE OWNER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! wooo hoooo yipppeeee skippppeeee yahhooooooo!!!!!

We go to Orlando often, and honestly have stayed 3 times (long weekends though - not 3 full weeks) total for less than our MF, taxes and exchange fees. Well, our last stay included DVC, so that may have actually put us 100 over. Maybe. Right now, the freedom seems to be worth the chance. We will see.

IF we were to own again, I am not sure WHERE we would. Logic says to buy where you stay (which we did) but I don't see us owning in Orlando ever again. It seems that you can trade into Orlando or rent fairly easily. Caveat - I am one of those crazy pixie dust in the eyes people though...

                      Where did you own?

does not shock me one SINGLE BIT! Rodent Baseborns!!!!!! Luckily, my parents only use their land line for faxes. If it gets too bad, I may just have my parents change their land line.

@JLB Did I ever ask you if you got any $$ from your Wastegate? Just curious if the outcome would have been different had I found you guys years ago.

Villas of Resort World---I think it has undergone 2 or more name changes since. The closing was horrendous and the new owners lost the use of the current year week despite all my efforts to get the closing company on the stick.

It is so easy to trade into Orlando, that it really doesn't pay to make the big MF payments and end up with generally mediocre or worse trading power.
