That's OK, the best humor is unintended.

If your question is whether you can vacation affordably and not own a timeshare, the answer, of course, is of course.

If your spouse will not stay in less than a 1 br and has to be high end, you might want to keep the timeshare.

Sure, you can rent, but in my experience, it's a lot more work than exchanging or doing a trade with another owner. It's not likely that rent will be less than your maint fees (would you rent for less than you have to pay each year?) but the obligation is gone.

No matter what you do, it will be a compromise.

I have gotten spoiled on being exactly where I want to stay, so we use a mix of hotels and timeshares and travel about 8 months a year.
We have stayed at Marriott Executive Suites sometimes when we are out of the USA and have been VREY happy. We are heading to Bahrain on December 8th and staying at a Marriott Residence Inn including complimedntary breakfast. When we went to Dubai I had booked the Marriott Courtyard, and was upgraded to a 1 bedroom unit that had a fully equipped kitchen. I have high status on IHG, Marriott, Hilton, Club Carlson and Best Western, and because of this we get some VERY nice upgrades especially in the Middle East and Europe. This is all on the hotel side of traveling. I have gotten VERY spoiled with daily maid service, clean towels every day, extremely nice upgrades and COMPLIMENTARY breakfast internet , etc. In the Middle East we constantly receive fantastic upgrades into huge units in hotels. The breakfasts over there are jawdropping! Yes, I am WAAAYYYY spoiled LOL! We stlll use timeshares for some places but trust me when its just us 2 , hotels are great. And I LOVE being directly in Budapest, London, Rome, Prague, Florence, Chesky Krumlov, Istanbul, the countryside in Bavaia etc, etc, etc

If a person is an RCI member, selling their timeshare does not relegate them to decrepit vacation accommodations. It's not a matter of having to give up timeshares; just a matter of economics, doing the same thing another way, for less.

In the window that I can see right now, there are approximately 59000 Extra Vacations and Last Calls. $7000 would go a long way in renting those, a long, long way if it were Last Calls, not to mention that the savings from maintenance fees no longer being paid would pay most, and perhaps all, of the rental fees.

When I have checked I don't know if I find any cheaper than what I can get from RCI or II when I add the MF + RCI exchange fees + average of total paid for TS when purchased. I am just trying to figure out what to do since we have a chance to sell it and get $7000 for it with no fees at all. AAAAHHHHHH the agony of making decisions.
Probably less than 2% of all timeshares would have a resale value of $5000 or more and most that do would have mf substantially less than what they could be rented for. Would you mind sharing what you own? Hopefully it really has the value you think and you are not just being told it is worth that much only to find you are being scammed and find yourself paying $ and then still owning your "valuable" TS.

Yup, when we see a post like that, our first reaction any more is to question it. It is the way she said "since we have a chance to sell it for", rather than something like, "it's worth", that made it sound maybe true. You know I would be the first around here to find that unlikely.

It does make me curious as to what they decided to do, 6 of their 30 posts coming in two days, and nothing since.

There are several places with true 1BR suites. My favorite is Hometown Suites by Hilton.

                    http://homewoodsuites3.hilton.com/en...html?WT.srch=1

We stayed in a 2BR unit at Hometown Suites in Phoenix. It had a full kitchen and the master bedroom was huge. It was only $139 /nt which includes free hot breakfast and dinner.

We have stayed at other Hometown Suites as well as Residence Inns and several others.

I stay in Residence Suites a lot when I'm not timesharing but the problem with this strategy is that they usually are not in vacation locations.
Usually in industrial parks or near the interstate. Rarely a view of much although they are usually very nice and clean with free dinners and breakfast.
I think they are great for visiting cities but not for spending a week at the beach or the mountains.

The difference between you and the tens of thousands of others is that you are actually trying to see if there's something better.

If you are in RCI, there is. If you are not in RCI, and can be, consider joining.

That way, even after you find a way to unload (probably give away) your timeshare(s), you can still get Extra Vacations and Last Calls. Last Calls is excess inventory for the next two months and they are never more than $299. Right now they are discounted to $209. I don't need to say it, but that is a whole lot better than a maintenance fee plus $209.

Extra vacations are further out and about the same price as rentals would be, sometimes a little less.

                        Here's Extra Vacations right now:

If a person is not all that particular about where, exactly, in Florida they go to get away from Winter elsewhere, after owning, there's still RCI resorts to be had, ones that don't need a deposit. In this selection of Extra Vacations from Snowbird Season, there are many for less than a typical maintenance fee:

                        January 2015 [148]
                        February 2015 [100]
                        March 2015 [211]

We'll see if there are any Last Calls when we get closer.
