  • What is the best way to give away MROP timeshare?

I am giving away my MROP Red Mexico priority timeshare and listed it on Craigslist. Someone responded but the name is different and it was sent at 3:30 am. last night. I wonder if it is someone out of the country.
Could it be some type of a scam?

I don't expect to get any money and plan for the new owner to deal directly with VRI to pay overdue maint. fees and transfer fees. I hope that is possible, but now wonder if VRI will require maint. fee be paid before they will consider transfer.

    I'd appreciate any advice.

    Thanks.

Write them back and see how it goes, you'll be able to tell, but it seems to me that you aren't just giving it away, you're selling it, as you are the one currently responsible for overdue fees.
... not enough time for all the timeshares ®

Craigslist is notorious for fraud (even more than eBay!)... You are right to be cautious. Frequent scams that are reported from that site are the standard "overpayment and refund request" and the "your resort says this needs to be paid- call this number with your credit card info" ploys....

This entire transaction sounds a bit scary to me, for both parties involved. I agree with Spence that because of the past due fees- this transaction will be more related to a sale than a gifting process. There is far too much "trust between strangers" that will have to be involved in this for my taste..

It sounds like you want the Buyer to deal directly with the resort on your behalf and bring your account current, then trust you to complete the transfer! If your home resort is in Mexico, the account will need to be current for any transfer request to be considered. Depending on how far behind you are- you may actually have to deal with a collection agent first before the resort will even consider reinstating your contract..

Since this sounds like a big risk for any reasonable buyer to accept- I have my doubts this transaction will actually come to completion even if both parties are sincere.. If the buyer is really interested, I'd recommend you go ahead and secure a closing agent at your cost to oversee the transfer. The costs you incur will be less than the maintenance fees that are most likely due in January- and far less headache than the collection calls due to unpaid fees.

Good luck.... Sounds like you might need it!
