    JBR = Just Back Report.

    "JBR" is used on a holiday forum I frequent which, come to think about it, has mostly Australian posters. In exchange for questioning the community before your holiday, you are expected to post a JBR when you return. Your posts have all the detail expected in their JBR's - best places to stay, shop, get souveniers, eat, best dishes to order, costs, places with good staff/bad staff etc, etc, etc.

    I love your style of writing and I'm glad you got home in one piece.

      Your friend needs a prescription for glucagon. This is an injection given when the patient is too hypoglycemic to ingest sugar. Have her ask her MD for it, and you and her closest folks should all learn how to administer it in an emergency. I second the advice for her to consult with her endocrinologist about her brittle diabetes. She may not be on the most up to date insulin regimen. Her hypoglycemic episodes are clearly life threatening.

        Shaggy,
        So glad you had such a great time.
        So sorry about the episodes with your friend. What does she do when no one is around?!? Was this just because of vacation and being off schedule?
        Very scary. She definitely needs help from her Doc.

          Wow. Sounds like you had a good time, but that is just a bit too much of a scare for me.

            Evidently, this has been going on for years & years and she is used to it. Last year she didn't show up for workout class so we drove over there and I found her passed out on the floor!! I think she is onlyt fooling herself and is scared that if her daughter knew how many times she has been passing out she wouldn't leave her with the grandkids or let her drive them anywhere.

            She has friends who call her at all times of the day and go check on her if she doesn't answer. (I'm not one of them) I refuse to enable her, that's why I told her daughter what was going on.

            She used to carry a glugon (sp) thing but I think she said insurance quit paying for it. She test every 2/3 hrs. It's the craziest thing I've ever seen.

              I think your friend is thinking more of herself and less of her grandchildren if she takes care of them and drives them. She could pass out at hme and scare the little ones if they are too young to be able to call for help. Also , much worse, she could pass out while driving and kill not only herself and her grandkids but othe drivers as well. She needs someone to straighten her out.

                  "brittle" diabetes - new one on me. DH is diabetic, he knows about it, said that's what they called him originally. It was new, not under control.

                  So from what he said, and what you said, testing every 2-3 hours should be sufficient. testing and, what, not reading the results??? refusal to adjust insulin??

                  I agree to not enable her. I just don't understand deciding that passing out whenever is fine. the daughter must know it's more frequent than she's told (I know when my mother is not being completely truthful). Hopefully she will either have straight talk with mom (prob'ly has, and gave up because Brick Wall wouldn't listen) and be damned sure that mom doesn't drive them anywhere, and that the kids know how to dial 911 and to not get into a car with gramma.

                  I've passed out twice in my life and I don't want to do it again. I just don't find that to be an acceptable alternative to letting diabs run havoc. Surely the unchecked blood sugar is hurting her organs. Poor dear just doesn't seem to really understand her condition. Denial??

                  ANYWAY, Shaggy, so glad you have a (mostly) good trip! Lazy river adventure would have been a sight! We love the lazies. And Myrtle Beach.
