Had a great weekend in Mystic, Ct. It was just shy of a two hour drive from Boston (one hour and 45 minutes).
Stayed here: Home Very gracious and warm innkeepers there. Nice doggies, too !
There is a timeshare about 25 miles from here, but we wanted to be close. There was a week available at that timeshare, but it would've been a waste of a week as all we had was the weekend. http://www.watersedge-resort.com/contact_us.html There are others, too.
Went there: Mystic Seaport: MYSTIC, CT - Sea Everything - A Guide to Attractions, Hotels, Dining & More! (bought a membership-cheaper in the long run). This is very well done as they have recreated the old seaport and strive for the historical significance and integrity of shipbuilding and life in that time.
Downtown Mystic Welcome to Mystic Country!
Submarine Museum and the Nautilus Submarine Force Library & Museum: Submarine History, Gifts & Memorabilia It's free (donations gladly accepted - closed at times, so do check schedule). Went on the Nautilus where my friend explained everything to me in detail. I'm qualed now ! My friend got to visit the sail of his old sub there.
Ate here: Go Fish Restaurant and The Captain Daniel Packer Inne Restaurant & Pub Great seafood, but there is the Steak Loft for you carnivores. Went to Mystic Pizza, but I think it's not as good as it once was.
Had wonderful breakfasts at the 1833 Inn.
Did: Antiquing, found an old "record" shop(vinyl music - remember ?) here:www.themysticdisc.com, went to old book stores, was going to kayak on the river, but the water was too cold. Watched the boats, poked around the shops, love the nautical/marine consignment shop. Marine Consignment of Mystic
It was great and I highly recommend this trip. Now that little Lucy has passed, I will start to travel again.
Will add more, but am running off to work.
