  • My SF Trip/ accident and all!! Sat May 8th

What an adventure I had, accident & all. I rented a mobility scooter which when I started I thought hmmm, this doesn't seem so safe. (He had warned me it might tip going over the curb area as it was shaped like a tricycle but he neglected to tell me it could turn over backwards with me on it. Yes it did, at the Bart station, my head hit thwack right on the concrete. They wanted to call the ambulance but I refused (afterall it was my first day, and staying in the hospital was not an option) because I wasn't bleeding I went on after I regained my senses. I ended up with a mild concussion and a stiff neck for 3 days before I felt well. I called the business and told them to pick it up and he said he'd give me a refund but I've so far only got $92 of the $209 back. He took out his "expenses" . This isn't over yet.

We went to the art fest across from the ferry building & then headed onto Fisherman's Wharf. What a long walk Kelli had. I had no idea. I ended up buying a wide angle lense for my camera and waited around for my night tour on the Mr. Toad's Tours. Don, our guide was a wealth of information and took us to amazing sights. I really liked the architecture of SF, I loved the Victorian homes. The view of the bridge from Crissy field was awesome as was Twin Peaks. I highly recommend this tour.

After the tour I had the bellman pack up the killer scooter & ship it back and we took a taxi out to Patzzi's for pizza. They screwed up the order really bad so they made Kelli a small pizza and I ate the other one and ended up with a comped bill. Bout time something good happened.

On to bed where the room swirled & rocked for most of the night and I woke up hardly able to turn my neck.

This is the definition of a "Shaggy" I don't have any more until the last day. Stay tuned. shaggy

      Sun: Happy Mothers Day

Slept in until noon, my head was hurting and I was trying to adjust to the time difference as yesterday we had been up for 22 hours. No wonder I felt like hell.

Rowena from Inn @the Opera had made arraingements for a wheelchair so Kelli wheeled me to the bus station where the bus driver took care to put the lift down , get me in & lock the chair. He was fabulous and was a lot of fun (why did I think all the bus drivers were going to be like that? -not)

We ate at Aliotos on a recommendation from a friend and it was horrible. I treated myself to a whole dungeness crab (awful) and Kelli had fish & chips , just ok. It definitly wasn't worth $70. Kelli gave me a card & a gift certificate to where I get my nails done.

I had bought a Go SF card (another mistake ) hoping to save money but it is was it is. We went to the Wax Museum & the Aquarium . I enjoyed it for a small aquarium it was quite good. Then on to the night tour of Alcatraz. That was a truly amazing experience and Kelli said it was the highlight of her trip. I was happy that she really , really enjoyed that.

The only thing open nearby was the Hard Rock where we had one of their trusty cheeseburgers . They really are good.

I had a hard time getting a taxi as I had a wheelchair but we had a 72 yr old lady taxidriver who used to be a lawyer for 25 yrs. She was ready for a change. She was a hoot. Home to sleep (still a headache & stiff neck) shaggy

Shaggy, sorry about Alioto's. Was the friend who recommend it a native? Or someone who had visited and eaten there? I usually wouldn't recommend restaurants on Fisherman's Wharf.

You always have so many challenges when u travel.
I give u a lot of credit for going on these trips.

Maybe bringing your mobility scooter from home - that u r familiar with - would make your trips easier?
You had a similar problem on your trip to Daytona.

Pat, I don't own a scooter. ( Not yet anyway) I'm now finding out what a mobility challenged person has to go thru. I don't give up easily.

I don't see it as "giving up" but rather enhancing your ability to continue to travel.
And having your own would take away the uncertainty of the whole rental drama.

Sorry about your trouble with the scooter. My friend's mom has had a couple of bad incidents with those. You have to be extremely careful.

Glad you made the most of your time though (as usual). Can't wait to hear MORE!!

Yeah, well I'm scared no one will want to room with me if this keeps up. I'm really not a bad roommate. shaggy

Mild ones, I get confused and my neck hurts but my Dr said since it had been over a week that I didn't need to be examined but to expect to have some mild problems for about a month.
