  • Nascar Hall of Fame/ etc. day trip

Yesterday was Kelli's bd and all she wanted to do was go to Charlotte to do a tour of the speedway & the newly opened Hall of Fame. For all of you who know my disaster at the Daytona 500 you know how I was looking forward to this but I have to say I was more than pleasantly surprised.

We started off by taking a tour of the speedway. What a deal!1 For $5 each we took a tour by van which included learning all about the track and a stop at pit road and the winners circle where we got out to take pics. We also went around the track up at the top where we stopped so you could feel the banking. Best $5 I've spent in a really long time.

Next Hendrix Motor Sports Museum & Gift Shop. Again better than I expected. Lots of memorabilia.

Lunch at Quality Lube & Gas. I didn't know this existed but was full of more Nascar memorabilia. Food was only so so but waitress was excellent and they brought out a fudge brownie topped with a sundae for Kelli's bd.

On to the Hall of Fame. I give this a 2 thumbs up as I was more than pleasantly surprised. $20 per adult/18 seniors/ 12 childrens. It was the most handicapped accesible place I've ever seen. They had special exhibits for handicapped , drive a race car simulator ( I hit the wall & anything else that got in my way ) Also able to get in a race seat where it simulated driving the wall which was way cool. It had 3 levels with tons of exhibits and history of the sport, films, cars, etc. . We were there a full 3 hours.

If you find yourself anywhere near Charlotte please go. It's worth every penny and then some. This is a long and full day but doable. I met people who had come down from Boone. They were here on vacation from CA. Who would ever expect to hear that coming out of my mouth after the Daytona 500 .

We were also lucky to be there for the unveiling of the #3 car that Junior led to victory 2 weeks ago . He said he'd never race the #3 car again.

To end the night we stopped at Longhorn where kelli had ribs & I had a prime rib. She got another sundae for it being her birthday.

    Happy travels!! Shaggy
