What a weekend kelli & I had. We had a better time than I ever expected and it was a boost to my ego. I was going mostly for Kelli altho it is mainly for people who like old shool wrestling (like me) . Got in on Thurs and went in to register & get my materials and ran into friends from last year & the years b4 so that was nice.
This year I had the honor of sitting with Rocky Johnson ( Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson) dad at the Hall of Heroes Banquet. Kelli was absolutely star struck. She kept calling him the Rocks daddy. Told her he was the original Rock!! Besides the dinner, there were question & answer sessions, autograph sessions, vendor promotions, and wrestling matches . The one on Sunday there was a bad accident and the chair didn't break & knocked the poor kid out . He had a goose egg the size of NY and had to go to the hospital. Once he woke up (about 20 mins later) he tried to wrestle but had to stop and go to the hospital and get checked out. Yes, accidents happen
Other Legends there was, Tully Blanchard, JR Ross, Reggie Parks, Ted Dibiase, The Assassan, Mr Wrestling II, Jimmy Snuka, Tony Atlas, Tommy Young, Ole Anderson, Mae Young, Jim Cornette, Greg Valentine, Nikita Koloff. Jimmy Valient, STING !!!!, and on and on, just too many to remember.
When Kelli met Sting, she almost passed out. ( The wrestler, not the singer) It was too funny.
I was known as the kissing bandit as I kissed all the wrestlers ( I have a cute pic of me & Terry Funk!! )
For some reason or other Rocky & I hit it off and he took us to lunch and one night we hit the bar and oh my!! Kelli brought me back a hamburger from McDonalds & Rocky deceided he wanted one so sent Kelli back to get him one &she told him it was for the Rock's dad & they threw in another order of fries. To me that was too funy. Well, Rocky doesn't drink so when anyone wanted to buy him a beer he'd say sure, Bud Light, and pass it on to me. I started telling funny tales of my trips and he was laughing so hard he was crying!! He kept wanting to get me more beers so I'd keep telling stories but I stopped after about 5 . We closed the bar at 3AM!! His BIL, Jimmy Snooka, was so drunk, he kept dropping his teeth, so I asked him if he needed some poligrip
Next morning as soon as I hit the place, his friend told me that Rocky was looking for me and to go find him at the autograph booth. He wanted to take us to lunch after his shift. He told me that he was dreading this trip and had been resisting going to these wrestling conventions as he thought all he'd do was sign autographs & be pestered to death by the fans (which he was) but because of me he wants to do more and has already signed up for the one in Atlanta for next year. What I'm about to write is not to brag but just to say it was so nice to hear some kind words from a man with no strings attached, unlike previous encounters. He told me he had not had this much fun in 2 years, and had been dreading this. He told me I had the best personality he had ever seen and hadn't laughed this much in years. It was so much fun. Coming from a "celebrity" I just wasn't expecting this. We are meeting up next year in Atlanta ( maybe before) When we got ready to leave he said if I ever needed anything, and he met anything to call or email him . Kelli looked at him and said with all seriousness , how about an autographed picture from your son!!! Leave it to Kelli to keep him real. She was still starstuck!! If I'd admit it maybe I was too, altho I tried not to show it.
I will be posting pics soon so if anyone wants to see them and look at all the "hunks" , well some of them are still hunks.
Hope you enjoyed this little tale of a really fun 4 days!! shaggy
