  • Tuesday/ Charleston & Mrs Fish!!

O'Dark thirty comes awful early!! We had to be at the Hard Rock to meet Grayline for our tour to Charleston. We stopped for a quick breakfast biscuit down the road. Oh Gawd, keep my eyeballs open!!

First stop was Boone Hall Plantation. I really enjoyed this, to me it was the unexpected highlight of this tour. We toured the house, the slave quarters, and was given enough time where I could take pics without lots of people in the way. They came out great and I will let you know when I get them posted.

2nd stop was the harbour tour. It was colder than a witches t-t which took away a lot of the enjoyment. We went by Ft Sumter and Patriots point. The captain/narator drove Kelli and me nuts with his pronounced heavy English accent. I usually love the English accent but he was trying to sound like an uppity aristocrat but it sounded like he had a corn cob up his a--. Our free lunch consisted of either a ham & cheese or a turkey and cheese sandwich. It was horrible and Kelli ended up buying a equally horrible hotdog. Glad to get off the boat.

3rd stop: Carriage ride. I was looking forward to this and going around the battery and looking at the beautiful old homes. But NO!! Update, they now have 4 different routes and even the driver doesn't know where he's going until he gets his number. We went down some street with old homes that weren't as nice as I remembered and only saw one church and not the crooked one either. I was so disappointed. It wasn't his fault but I wasn't a happy camper. Bless his heart, he tried to make it interesting.

4th stop was a quick and I mean quick look at the market. Not enough time to really do anything. I didn't even buy a souvenier. I guess I would have liked it better had the weather been better and the carriage ride had been a different route. I honestly can not recommend this tour. I felt like I wasted $200 or actually not wasted but could have been put to better use. This was the only thing we did that I didn't care for.

Finally home and starving to death we set off to find Mrs Fish. It became a challenge but we found it. It's a little bitty place next to a office supply apx 2 blocks from the rides at the pavillion. It has taken my vote as the best food in Myrtle Beach. It is owned by a young Vietnamese (sp) couple. Not only do they have the traditional fried food but they have fresh fish that you choose how it's prepared. Fried, broiled, blackened. They have very inovative specials all prepared with fresh ingredients. They are very proud of their little business and the locals really support them. At lunchtime you may encounter a line as all the bankers, execs , etc come in to eat. It's not nearly as busy at supper. The only drawback is that they serve the food on paper plates and plastic utensils. You want find a coupon, an add, or anything, it's strictly word of mouth and my mouth will work overtime to help spread the word!!

I thought I had edited to add this but it didn't show up. We ended the night by going home to watch American Idol. I had originally wanted to go to Crocodile Rocks but afterall you do have to have priorities.

I hope you are not being bored to death as I am enjoying reliving my memories!! Hugs to y'all Shaggy
